Phillies Sign Infielder Ozuna

Scott Lauber reports the Phillies have signed infielder Pablo Ozuna to a minor league contract. He will join the team in Spring Training as a non-roster invitee.

Ozuna hit .260 with a home run and nine RBI in 96 at bats for the Dodgers and White Sox in 2008. His best year was 2006, when he hit .328 with 17 RBI in 189 at bats for Chicago.

Lauber hints at it — and it’s probably true — that with this signing (coupled with the signing of Marcus Giles), the Phils are bracing for an April without Chase Utley.

Why do the Phils keep dissing Jason Donald? The guy is supposed to be a stud, and we keep signing a bunch of stiffs! Let the farm system get some playing time in the bigs for crying out loud!

Nobody’s dissing Jason Donald. They’re just signing fallback options if Donald isn’t as good as everyone think’s he is.

I understand that but I thought that was what Giles was for. Oh well, can never have too many I suppose!

Greg V – the phils won’t bring up donald because then he would acquire major league service time, and they would have to pay him arbitration to him within 4 years. The longer they hold him down the longer it will be before they have to pay him.

It’s not bad, insurance for the insurance of the insurance. I have the feeling Donalds set for Leigh Valley with Carrasco and Amaro’s putting pro’s around these guys to aid there development instead of the career minor-leaguers that have been there recently.

    KM-

You are so right I mean look at JRoll, Cole Hamels, Brett Myers, Ryan Madson, Kyle Kendrick, Pat Burrell. They all were just soooooo held back due to service time.

My god, you do realise Utley and Howard were blocked by 2 very good players in Polanco and Thome. It’s not like we were afraid of their service time for crying out loud, we were afraid Howard wouldn’t knock in 45 Homers and Thome would somewhere else.

So please, when only 2 of the 9 players we had last yr can back up you awesome theory, do a tad bit more research. Oh by the way they didn’t hold back Scott Rolen or Lieberthal either. Nor did they delay Gavin Floyds ascent to the majors.

Some people collect Baseball Cards. Looks like Amaro is collecting infielders.

I agree with Greg V. Jason Donald is 24 years old! How long are we keeping him down there????
