I had a post prepared that focused on the year 2012. Yes, 2012. It’s a big year for the Phillies, considering it may be the first of a new guard. More on that later.

For now, here’s an open thread. Talk about anything you like, from Ryan Madson to Cole Hamels, from Ben Sheets to Ryan Howard.

A salary dump isn’t a salary dump if you are looking for things in return…

They didn’t want to pay Abreu $15 M or $16 M.. so they dumped him to the Yankees, and we used that money to sign Chase Utley to an extension… the Abreu-dump-and-Utley-extension is one of the best moves the franchise has ever made

T Marty….12/21/12 I’ll be more than ready…..the X-Mas tree will be up,the gifts wrapped, the food ready to be cooked, lights up outside with the Yule Log on TV.Yup,I’ll be ready. “End of the world”? I feel fine.

If we signed sheets we would lose our 1 stop and 2nd round picks. Not sure who would get the first one between brewers and Seattle. Same reason brewers got screwed wit a second rounder for cc.

The Phillies rotation is set..1 thru 4. Where would Sheets fit in? He’s not a necessity for the Phillies. Howard is and that’s where the Phillies should set their sights on signing him to a multi-year contract. Let’s say.. 3 years for $60M (18M,20M and 22M the 3rd yr).

Hamels – Sheets – Myers – Moyer – Blanton or Blanton – Moyer depending on how you rank those last two. Thats a POWER rotation.

signing howard to a multiyear contract at those rates is absolutely the worst thing they coul dpossibly do. nobody is worth 18m 20m 22m a year….nobody. especially not ryan howard.

thats why you trade ryan howard so we can get the prospects BACK we lost signing ibanez and sheets (when we sign him)
