Myers Responds To Mets

The bantering between the two National League East divisonal rivals may never stop.  Brett Myers was recently interviewed by Comcast Sportsnet’s Leslie Guidel.  He expressed his feelings on some of the Mets recent comments.

“I don’t care what they’re saying, it doesn’t matter.  It doesn’t matter anymore because it’s just like something they’re trying to prove to themselves that they are they team to beat.  They can think that.  We thought it, Jimmy said it, it’s over.  That’s been a two-year thing, what are we still talking about it for?”

“Great.  Now we’re on – not a sequel, but the third time and those movies really suck.”

Jim….I will have to look back at my Mets 25th anniversary tape where Tug said he’d always consider himself a NY Met.He was a Met and a Phillie and won world series titles with both teams. In Tug,he resented M. Donald Grant (As many Mets fans did.Scumbag even traded “The Franchise”) and requested to be traded.I don’t fault Tug at all.He can say to NY “Stick It” or whatever. He is still considered a world class player for whoever he pitched.I idolized and respected Tug since I watched my first Mets game in 73 and most relievers esp John Franco hold high regard to him (Even wore #45 when Piazza came here)

The Phillies suck and will not do shit this year. The Mets are going to destroy everyone in the East.

The Phillies were OVER achievers last year. Cole Hamels is back end rotation pitcher at best. Lidge had a fluke year and will become a headcase again the first home run Puljos hits off him. Howard…umm strikeout king? Rollins…major decline. Utley…he is the only decent one of the bunch and he is at best a utility player on any other team. Phillies won’t win 70 games this year.

By the way…who holds the record for most franchise losses?

Willy – I couldn’t agree with you more. I have been a lifelong Phillies fan and I have had it up to here with these bozos. Sure, I was happy we won last year but I know there is no way we repeat. Our clubhouse has no talent and heart. We should not have given Howard all that money. I guess after this year, we will be back into rebuilding mode. We should trade Hamels in July before he loses too much value. I heard his fastball is down 7mph this spring. Eep.

I enjoy people like Philly Willy. Cole Hamels back end of rotation at best? Really? Howard has a lot of strike outs, yet puts more runs on the board then other players….Utley utility player on any other team?

I usually don’t use the “you’re just jealous” argument, but that is a prime example.

And the franchise record….good to know that games that happened in 1883 mean so much to you.

Assuming people are still here, this will not go over well…

    Yep.

Willy’s argument about the franchise record is important. We can’t forget the past. We have to remember that our franshise has the most losses EVER. We should be proud of it. That takes consistency. Consistent sucking.

    Thank you Willy!

Willy and Brian I am sorry. I see your point and you are correct. I am happy we won the series last year but no way this team repeats.

Good to know some of the trolls here are stealing username handles. Rob, Brian, and Tim usually ban people for that stuff.

So having only two every day players having years better than their career avrages is overachieving? How about the 2006 Mets. That team is the perfect example of overachieving. Face it, the Mets had their one shot and they blew it. Enjoy 3rd place this year.

I apologize. I let my emotions get the better of me. I agree the Phillies will not make the playoffs. Probably finish 2nd to last. The Mets are built to win for the next few years. Now that they have the best pen in the NL and possibly all of MLB, I think they coast. Sorry for the outburst. I am truly a moron.

As a Platinum card carying Mets fan Willy, may I say people like yourself make the rest of the LEGITIMATE Mets fans look bad.Go back to Metsblog with your grade school buddies who have no originality in using (Insert Team/Player here) Sucks. Now I am not and never will be a Phillies fan,but I can at least respect what they did and can actually say they are a good ballclub.10,000 losses and the 2008 championship is history, look towards the future pal.The future’s so bright, you gotta wear shades.

Well said Miner. Phillies fans are so easy to wind up. Must come with the years and years of sports inferiority.

I think this year is the Mets year. Let the Phillies fans have their fun until August when they are looking towards next year.

Good to know that some Mets fans like to pull the same stuff as the players by resulting to 12-year-old style shenanigans like copying username handles.

And you wish you had a player like Chase Utley in New York. He’s easily one of the top 5 players in baseball and when healthy, the best 2nd baseman and it isn’t really even close. Cole Hamles is generally regarded as the best young lefty in baseball and one of the top 2 young pitchers with Tim Lincecum. And yeah, let me tell you, Rollins and Howard sure aren’t that talented. Howard only has the most HRs and RBI in baseball in the last 3 years, and Rollins is the best defensive SS and the best base stealer in baseball.

Utley – talented but top 20 at best
Hamels – falls off the wagon this year, out of majors in 3 years
Howard – lol. strikeout strikeout and did i mention strikeout
Rollins – in decline. cant steal bases anymore idiot

Yeah stealing 47 out of 50 isn’t impressive. Howard doens’t have the K record any more. And when you name 20 players who can hit and field their position better than Utley, and do it with a hip injury, I’ll tell you you’re right. And everyone is seeing the biggest difference between the front runners in Queens and Philly fans. We respect guys like Santana and Wright. Nobody in any city respects Reyes and would love to see him to get spiked in the face every night, but nobody here blindly tries to deny his talent like you do with anybody on the Phillies. You’re a disgrace to real baseball fans.

If you guys look at the top 10 all time strikeout leaders, you have reggie jackson , willie stargell, jim thome, and the immortal MIKE SCHMIDT. I guess because these guys struck out a lot they will never make the hall of fame or be considered a solid player OH WAIT. (as for thome in the hall of fame, cant say he will be a first balloter but he will make it eventually, and im not saying howard would be in the hall, just making comparisions)

AGAIN THESE ARE TOP TEN ALL TIME IN STRIKEOUTS!

oh and howard has been more productive in his first 3 seasons , rbi wise, than any of these guys were in the heart of their careers, that includes mr schmidt, phils fans

I like Thome. I think he is good.

i think so too, i just didnt want to topic changed to jim thome.

for god sakes guys, howard averages 50 home runs and 140 rbis per 162 games! is there anyone in history who has those career averages!!! god k nows he wont keep it up, but what will that average fall to, 40 and 120? still incredible, he will average on a yearly basis what most guys hope for in their career year

I always like it when two brand-new names show up to post things at the same time.. and they just happen to agree with one another.. AND be anti-phillies at 9:00 on a Monday night

That was without a doubt the same person, agreeing with himself, sounding like a douche.. typical North Jersey trash

What a loser Myers is…embrace competition. Don’t ignore it.

Don… I was just going to say that. It’s pretty obvious that Sam T, Silly Willy and the fake SJ Mike are the same person. They probably won’t respond to this post because they’re in second or third period by now… likely a couple of pimple-faced high school nerds with nothing better to do than ruin their own integrity by bringing weak comments and stealing other peoples’ handles. Shame on you… let’s forget about those comments and move on.

NYMetz… I would agree with you on the “Ya Gotta Believe” thing if Tug didn’t say it. It’s as much his trademarked phrase as it is the Mets… so if Tug originated the phrase both times, we have every right to earmark that phrase as a part of our history as you do. We can’t just act like he never said it.

If you want to blame anyone, blame Tug.

Myers wasn’t embracing competition… he was just saying that it’s getting old. If you can’t bring something new to the table, don’t bring it at all. It’s a HUGE slap in the face to the Mets. We’ve all read this book before and it always ends the same way. Why are you still talking? He is making it clear that the Phillies give them ZERO respect. Until they can prove themselves on the field, they don’t deserve any respect.

The only thing pathetic is the lack of heart the Mets have in crunch time. YOUR team has been a downright disgrace and a laughing stock of MLB.

Mike…your punctuation is spectacular, thanks for the periods. Also, thanks for the non sensical rant. I guess the bottom line would be that the Phillies are the current world champs of baseball, and the Mets did not make the playoffs again after choking worse than any team in the history of baseball. Mets fans should have nothing to say and keep their yaps shut and bow to the Phillies. Deal with it.

I think we can agree most Mets fans cannot accept the possibility anyone else can or should have success and they loathe the idea of their rivals not being inferior. This year we saw the Mets front office answer, let guys coming off big deals walk and replace them with expensive alternatives. Their not much better, their certainly not any healthier but straight away their the team to beat when it’s virtually the same team just a couple of diferent names, Putz was a good trade but he’s in his walk year and the Mets sent A LOT of depth in that deal to get it done.

Are the Mets better, yes in some areas but depth and the farm is an issue and their no less ‘creaky’ than last year.
Are the Phillies weaker, yes in some areas but there’s guys on the roster who are expected to have better years.

This isn’t cut and dry down to off-season acquisitions because if your talking signings then throw Lidge, Hamels, Howard into the conversation.

^BTW can we throw this idea of the Mets choking for a second year out the window it’s incorrect poor anaylsis from fans and too many writers.

The Phils were the one’s that almost threw it away with a terrible couple of months when they were fan infront. The Mets got back into had and had a great run they couldn’t sustain when the Phils were putting it back together late.

And may I add that the Mets haven’t won a championship since Gary Carter had that ridiculous perm. And you have made the World Series only one time since.
