Today the Phillies open their Spring schedule in Bradenton against the Pirates.
Jamie Moyer goes for the Phillies while Ian Snell toes the rubber for the Buccos. The Phils will also send Joe Blanton, Joe Bisenius, Scott Nestor, Joe Borkowski, Mike Koplove and Jake Woods to the mound. The latter five are bullpen candidates, but think of their chances in order of pitching, and even Bisenius and Nestor aren’t favorites to make the club.
The lineup is close to standard, with Matt Stairs taking designated hitter, Geoff Jenkins playing right field and Eric Bruntlett and Jason Donald playing third base and second base, respectively, for the rehabbing Pedro Feliz and Chase Utley.
Gametime is 1:05 p.m.

Bisenius gave up 4, Blanton 1, and Nestor 3.

Rick: What an idiot! First ST game and all the regulars are out by the 3rd inning and you say they stink. Real smart!

Nothing do with today’s game, but in case anyone doesn’t know, today is the 35th anniversary of the trade with the Cardinals that gave us Steve Carlton. In my opinion, the best trade in Phillies history. Here’s a link to the Hall of Fame’s article about it.

Ok I know this is way off subject, but I live in Vermont just got my sunday season tickets via ups this morning, what a great day, then to top it all off, on my way to work and was driving pass the Mail lady, so I stopped to get my mail, yea you can do that up here, and she hands me my opening day tickets, can’t wait for opening day weekend. Sunday package gets me the last pre season game against the rays then opening day. Then the sun came out and it looked like baseball weather,(well kind of there still is 6 inches of snow on the ground up here. See every one who got tickets opening day. What a beautiful day

Thanks for the info. Il try and dig it up. Its potentially doable with public trans. R6 to CC, then Market Line to 22nd st then walk a few blocks sound about right? (this city needs a few more subway lines)

geoff there’s the greater philadelphia men’s baseball league, my roommate plays. his practices are always in cheltenham and they play there and in south philly, south jersey and montco. better if you have a car but he got around fine on public transportation. here’s their website: http://www.gpmabl.com/
on a related note, would anybody be interested in organizing some kind of phillies nation pickup game? i’ve been dying to play real hard ball again but can’t afford any leagues.

Shaggy, oh yeah, what a beautiful day, driving around, warm sun, windows open, listening to the Phils. Spring is in the air (here in Lancaster Cty that means the smell of horse poopy on the Amish farmers’ fields), but I’m used to it, so it’s all good. Have a great evening!

Hey Geoff, Roxborough has a team in the Penn-Del League and they play their home games at John Boyce Memorial Field at Roxborough & Henry Ave. in Roxborough. The league is very competitive with some college players, some ex-college players and even a few guys who have played pro ball. They play all over the Philly area and suburbs.
