A young right handed power bat that is needed in the line up now that Burrell is gone. I’m glad to see he is showing something. May not help us this year but I could see Utley, Howard, Mayberry in the middle of the line up for 2010

He’ll try his hand at International League play and if the Phils deal Jenkins or Stairs you know it’s to bring this kid up because he’d be able to play the corner outfield and 1b positions. So we’ll see how that goes.

Low-risk, high reward. We gave up on one of those toolsy guys that would have struggled to find a starting spot on this team and took a risk on a player with big upside… Mayberry could be a fine player. He needs to cut back on his strikeouts but other than that, he’s got it. Power, speed, size, defense… Golson was a guy that might have had better tools and better defensive skills but in the end, was really limited by his lack of strength, size and major league potential (didn’t translate into anything more than a solid defensive player with good on-base skills). Mayberry might not be as fast or as disciplined but he has great potential.
