Who’s next in line to chime in on the Phillies and Mets rivalry? Could it be Jose Reyes?

“I don’t know why they always focus on us. They are the ones to win the World Series,” Reyes said. “We don’t say nothing about them. We just say, ‘Congratulations to the Phillies.’ They always say something about us and we don’t even focus on them. We focus on them when we play against them.”

Oh Poor me! The Pghillies are picking on me again. Boy that is typical. gimme a break, they are just as bad if not worse than us.

The Mets problem isn’t the Phillies. They played well against us last year. It’s that they get so caught up in trying to beat us, that they forget to beat the crappy team they play right before or after the Phillies.

Honestly, its about time this board disregard what all players are saying ESP using “Team to beat” and “We are gonna win 112 games” and not put them on the blog.It has become utter nonsense. I mean ENOUGH! Lets play BALL and see who wins and who loses.Enough is Enough.

  • Mets fans put a lot of stock into those series where they beat the Phils last year. Funny how they stopped winning those series when the calendar switched to August.

EasrFallowfield, they lost one series after July…

The Mets are comprised of a lot of talent that cannot function as a whole team. That is where the problem is, not that they are choke artists, or the “team to beat”. They simply cannot win consistently. And I am not going to say that the Phils are consistent, but they win the games they need. And that is what makes this team a whole.

    Is Reyes joking or something?

I don’t get why the mets think the phillies have an inferority complex, which reyes said if tim had posted the full quote. Do they know anything about a rivalry? about being fans?? dont they know that half fun of winning is not only basking in your success but reminding the other team that they didnt win.

and lets face it, met fans. we are your big brother. your “inferority complex” comes from the fact that your in a major market but everyone notices your OTHER big, and way more successful brother, the new york yankees.

hands down, the mets have the worst fan base for a big market team

This is getting ridiculous. First off, Rollins showed confidence and said the phillies are the team to beat this year (2007). No dig at the Mets whatsoever. Than in Spring Training last year, Beltran claimed that the Mets were the team to beat. Oops, didn’t happen. After winning the World Series, two radio hosts, who are both Mets fans, on the Mets radio channel 660 The Fan, called the mets choke artists and asked Colbert if he agreed. He agreed. Cole should have responded with, “Yes I agree with what you just said, but I’m not gonna say it.” That would have been the best way to answer it.

Now you got K-rod chiming in. Beltran tries to be a big boy again this year and tries to justify his insane contract which he certainly is not living up to. And now you have Jose Reyes thinking we are focused on the Mets all the time. Come on now, Brett Myers did the best thing with what he said yesterday. Put it to rest already and let’s play ball. If the Phillies go 3-14 against the mets next year, they’ll go 14-3 against the nationals. In the end, both teams are more than likely going to be in it. Let’s play ball already!!!!!!!

    Well said Jim!!

I usually disagree with bashing an entire fan base but it makes sense. These fans follow thier team and thier team is more a collection of players than an actual taem like the phils

You know, it’s kind of sad, but of all the stupid things that have been said, Jose Reyes’s desperate attempt to make the Mets seem like the good guys and have the last word to be truly asinine. If you’re gonna pull the “trashing-you-while-acting-like-i’m-bigger-than-the-game” card, at least know what your own teammates said, jackass.

Haha this should make for an interesting season. I love that Reyes says that they don’t saying anything about the Phils. Where has he been for the past few years? Even if he wants to say the Phillies start it (which is probably true) he makes it seem like they dont get involved (which is clearly not true). Either way the Mets suck. They had two main problems and they fixed one. They get pitching at the end of the bullpen. Do they have heart?

“Congratulations to the Phillies.” – Jose Reyes

Seriously though, I can’t wait to hear what Luis Castillo and Joe Smith have to say on the matter.

    and HA! @ Jp.

wow, you prove the point he’s making everytime you post a quote from one of the mets…all philly cares about is what NY is saying. IF you notice, not ONCE did the mets every make any comment about philly (except for when beltran madea comment about Hamels, which he was directly asked about). Every quote that a met makes is about how they are a much better team and are a team to beat….but reporters (and this blog is guilty of it too of) putting up “half quotes” where you dont see the full quote and don’t realize that the media feeds all this crap by playing he said she said to both met and philly players…all each person does is respond to what reporters ask and you people take it as the mets challenging.

mets arent scared of the phillies…mets dont care about the phillies…every met fan knows that all the phillies arguments will be for NOW ON…is this exact line right here : “we won the world series”..how do i know?..because its still the same one every yankee fan uses…STILL….we dont give a $hit….

The Mets biggest problem is that their fans are disgusted with them, and when the players talk big and come up small it only exacerbates the problem. Metsblog was already in meltdown mode by mid-April last year. So let’s be real. The Mets players haven’t learned to deal with the pressure they themselves continue to create, and this refried ‘we’re awesome for reals’ chatter – again – is just weak self motivation. The Mets haven’t figured out that they can’t talk their way out of the reputation they rightfully earned. They have to change it on the field. The fact that they’re still trying to puff themselves up suggests that they’re not learning hard lessons, and I, for one, am happy to see them continue to flail away at shadows.

Remember the Mets 2007 slogan (“Your Season Has Come”)? They’re still choking on that one. They need to reach Acceptance and then maybe things will change for the better.

and how are you our big brother may i ask?…after two years?…really?…thats quite a jump…not to mention that we might as well have given it to you..considering what happened…i cant WAIT for this season to begin…just so every philly fan and quiet down when the mets start beating the hell out of the phillies…because the mets are better…its no question

about the phillies?..i dont know if that was supposed to be a joke..haha?…but it really wasnt all that funny….i actually found it pretty stupid

I’d like to lean on the side of the Met’s/Philly rivalry is just good ol’ fashioned love of the sport induced mischieve; but, the only time that there’s any bad talking about NY(minor) on this site, it’s because some dingdong from up north decides that this is the place for him to voice his sense of inadequacy in the form of a poorly thought-out tirade. I can’t even remember the last time a Braves, Marlins or Nationals fan shot his mouth off here, and I can’t think of the last time that anyone here bashed Atlanta, Florida or DC.

I think the Mets are actually a pretty strong team, and the only reason that we won the World Series again was because they were our yardstick of competition in recent years.

Phillies vs. Mets – 2009 player matchups

If there would be an argument, I am just going to call it even:

C Carlos Ruiz vs. Brian Schneider – Even
1B Ryan Howard vs. Carlos Delgado – Advantage Phils
2B Chase Utley vs. Luis Castillo – Advantage Phils
SS Jimmy Rollins vs. Jose Reyes – Even
3B Pedro Feliz vs. David Wright – Advantage Mets
LF Raul Ibanez vs. Daniel Murphy – Advantage Phils
CF Shane Victorino vs. Carlos Beltran – Even
RF Jayson Werth vs. Ryan Church – Even

1 Cole Hamels (L) vs. Johan Santana – Even
2 Brett Myers (R) vs. John Maine – Even
3 Jamie Moyer (L) vs. Oliver Perez – Advantage Phils
4 Joe Blanton (R) vs. Mike Pelfrey – Advantage Mets
    5 Even (Who knows?)

5 Chan Ho Park (R) vs. Jon Niese

Thanks Suse, I’ll try and better keep up with the Mets off-season roster changes. I’ve gotta be honest, I’ve spent the last five months watching and rewatching our three Championship DVDs and my team’s superstars on late night talk shows to follow the career path of that red-cheeked, marshmallow nobody.

Wow Womp Womp, it’s truly a sign of the times that computers have become so comprehensive that even someone such as yourself, who couldn’t be quoted for more than a word without a “(sic)” can navigate the internet to troll around here. What a beautiful age of technology we live in!

    phillyhater, it wasn’t a joke.

There are ways to say that you don’t care about the Phillies that don’t include posting book-report length ramblings on a blog called PhilliesNation every 30 seconds.

i could but you along with your arrogant friends on here wouldnt understand that the mets dont give a flying fVck about he phillies…just like the fans dont care about the phillies or there fans….win won world series and yo are ready to declare them gods of baseball…please…they are not as good as the mets….with this new bullpen…its going to be lights out..

Victorino, 3 years young, faster, better defensively and just as good a hitter. (Not a power hitter, but a hitter.) Compare the numbers from last year if you like.

Beltran has batted over .300 once in his career, why is he worth $19. The funny thing is Bobby Abreu is going to make $5 million this year and he will probably put up Beltran numbers.

Both Victorino and Beltran have a lifetime batting average of .281. I would take a 3 million dollar Victorino over a 19 million dollar beltran anyday.

Again, “If there would be an argument, I am just going to call it even”

I go to about 3 or 4 phillies blogs a day, this one being my main blog. I also go to metsblog.com. This may seem like i am “obsessed” but I like to know what the mets are doing as well as the phils (keep your friends close and your enemies closer.) I have never left a comment on mets blog.com but I have looked at them, and there is nota single thread without the word “phils, phillies or philadelphia” in their name. Half of the peopls usernames (which they actually have to register) are called phillysucks or my personal favorite, burnphillydown. I see no one there, except for an occasional drifter, who would call them self a phillies fan posting on a met blog.

Yet I goto the phillies sites and read the comments which are from phillies fans… and the mets fans who not only troll the site but the other (occasional) met fans who are reasonable and are arguing for the mets with legit baseball logic.

So tell me, how are the mets in the phils heads? its clearly the other way around. I’ve said it before, ill say it again, call it biased but I believe the mets fan base is the WORST fan base for a big market team. Sure, we booed santa and throw batteries and get drunk but thats what the “fans” at any city do these days.

maybe throwing batterie is a stretch, but you get my point.

better defensively? give me a break….and lets see victorino get 30 homers and 100 or more rbis every year then u could argue it but there is no way in hell they even bud.
