Reyes Joins The Fun

Who’s next in line to chime in on the Phillies and Mets rivalry? Could it be Jose Reyes?
“I don’t know why they always focus on us. They are the ones to win the World Series,” Reyes said. “We don’t say nothing about them. We just say, ‘Congratulations to the Phillies.’ They always say something about us and we don’t even focus on them. We focus on them when we play against them.”

Of course Beltran has more RBIs than Shane. Carlos primarily hits in the 4-hole.

No they are not, they are opinions and exaggerations based on your generalization of Met fans.

On the matter of Beltran vs. The Flyin’ Hawaiian, yes Beltran has better power numbers, but on the matter of BA/FP, please guess who the following are attributed to:
.284/.993 vs. .293/.995

And while you’re trying to guess which of those sets of stats is in the Philadelphia court, please keep in mind that they both have a .281 career batting average (Carlos’ career years having come c. a half decade ago) and career .994 fielding average. Taking into account that one of these players is on the upswing of his career with consistently improving power numbers and the other is three years older and losing power (while, admittedly, picking up speed in the form of SB’s, doubles and triples), I’d have to admit that the guy who did better last year in the primary offensive and defensive categories (whoever that may be) has a slight edge over Beltran… I mean, the other guy.

Like most Mets players, Carlos Beltran’s best years were with another team.

I was talking to my good friend William Penn the other day and we both thought how funny this was. Why just the other century we had a similar mis-understanding with our constituents from beow the mason dixon line. The folks from Yee Yonder wanted to incorperate slavery in the constitution. In both cases the bad guys won

Tony, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent team comparison were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this blog is now dumber for having read to it. I award you no props, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Chad said it a while back – the Mutleys are a collection of players, not a team like the Phils are. That is why they will be gawking at our booties again this year!

mets arent scared of the phillies…mets dont care about the phillies…every met fan knows that all the phillies arguments will be for NOW ON…is this exact line right here : “we won the world series”..how do i know?..because its still the same one every yankee fan uses…STILL….we dont give a $hit
LOL…..sure you don’t care. Yes you do, there is jealously there. You never want to see you rivals win, especially when the losing team is a bunch of dancing big-months that can’t back up their talk in crunch time.

This rivalry is pretty much over. Its only talked about by the mainstream media and mlb because it attracts attention to more fairweather fans (met fans mostly).
The mets also love this rivarly because it gives there fan base something to be happy about considering theyve choked the past 2 years.
As far as i am concerned, and msot of philadelphia is concerened (Not the people who nessecarily post here), the mets are just another team that we face during the season, like the padres and pirates.

Jose Reyes celebrates excessively after just about every at bat that goes his way. He is seen as a player who is far more obnoxious and flamboyant with his celebrations than just about anyone else in the league. That’s not necessarily how I view him, but that is the way he is viewed almost everywhere outside of New York.
I think one thing that gets overlooked, however, is a cultural difference in the way celebrating is viewed. In America, it has always been considered an insult to your opponent and their fans when celebrating excessively; poor sportsmanship. In the Dominican, this is not necessarily the case. It’s simply seen as having fun.
My point is this: Jose should get a pass for his past antics. Still, this is America; With the attention he got last year, he must have figured out that he’s insulting his opponents. No ‘passes’ in the future.

I agree with Dennis. Methinks that every Mets fan secretly yearns to a Phillies phan but is short on karmic points.
Perhaps in the next life, these miscreants may be blessed with becoming Phillies phans, but they must do some good things in this life.
Oh and we won the WS and they didn’t. So, nanner nanner boo boo.

Two points i would like to make here…..reyes does celebrate when he does something well…sometimes too much, but last year he got rid of the dances outside the dugout (he only does this with delgado on the top step) and does them inside…if that bothers any opposing player than so be it….the fact remains is that yes..the mets/phillies both get asked questions and do answer them, but the reason met fans and now we are seeing the mets players are a bit confused is that during every celebration that your team had, you were always bringing up the mets…to me that is pathetic…you beat us…TWICE!!! that just shows they players truely understand that they got away with a couple of good years when they were not the better team….also if any of you actually think Shane Vic is a better player than Beltran….well you are just plain lost…beltran is considered the best CF in baseball…by far….your argument that he bats fourth and that is why he has over 100rbi shows your lack of understanding of the game….CFs that bat 4th and drive in 100rbi are few and far between…add in his GG D, tremendous arm, ability to steal bases, score runs etc….come on i know you love “your guy” and that is great…that is the way it should be, but come on at least have a clue

Tony, Beltran is better than Victorino. He has better overall offensive numbers and has won more gold gloves. Victorino isnt young. He’s 28. If he cant hit for power yet, he probably never will. He’s posted 34 HR for his Career. Beltran had 41 in 2006 alone. Victorino has the same career BA but lower OBP, Slug, OPS, draws fewer walks, scores fewer runs, hits fewer rbis by a lot, gets fewer doubles. The only offensive areas that Victorino did better last year were triples and sb. By no measure is Victorino better. And as fielding goes, he has the slightest possible edge in fielding pct in 200 fewer innings and with 100 fewer opportunities. There is no argument here for anyone not drinking some serious phillies Koolaid.
Chase, Beltran had some good years in KC, but his best year was as a met in 2006. Beltran is the best CF in the NL for sure, probably baseball. Hes won the silver slugger 2 of the last 3 years, and the gold glove the last 3 years. I get that he’s a Met and therefore an enemy to you, but even biased people can admit that other players besides Phils are good.

I honestly don’t understand Phillies’ fans incessant hatred of Reyes. He’s a good kid…he’s always smiling and having fun. He’s a family man and stays out of trouble off the field. He’s great with fans…especially children. Has he even ever said anything negative about the Phillies or their fan base? Ok, so he styles a bit too much on home runs sometimes. So what? A ton of players do it and it’s not like Reyes only does it against the Phillies.
You treat Reyes the way Mets fans used to treat John Rocker…only the treatment of Rocker was warranted.
And yes, maybe I’m a “troll,” but I only checked this website after hearing the Reyes quotes because I KNEW there would be a post and a bunch of comments about. But according to “Jim” the Mets are just like the Padres and Pirates in the eyes of the Phillies. Ok dude…

Agree, with Shea goodbye, Phillies and their fans love to hate Reyes.
The first game at Citizen bank park last year (the first game where Santana outpitched Hamels) Reyes stole second base, and was shaken up and the fans actually cheered, not all of them but enough to make the noise needed to disgrace the whole city
dont know who made the games “right way to play police” but they need to police their fans

The Phillies didn’t get away with anything the last 2 seasons, they were the better team. Accept and move on Mets fans. You and your team talk an awful lot for being beatdown in crunch time by not only the Phillies, but other teams as well.
And we can have the individual player arguments until we are red or blue in the face, but the fact is that the Phillies are the better TEAM with the better chemistry. The Mets (and other NL East teams) need to prove it otherwise.
The Phillies are the defending champs, the Mets are the defending bark award champions.
