Since Bobby Abreu cried, I wonder what Larry Bowa did. And crabby Scott Rolen, for that matter. And what about Vicinte Padilla and Kevin Millwood and Billy Wagner ???

I was really looking forward to a follow-up to the sweater vest.
I would love to know what Larry Bowa did… and Ed Wade, for that matter.
Leslie Gudel was talking about Schmidt yesterday… asking him a bunch of questions related to last season and plans for this season. He was pretty opinionated and open to talk about everything except for one topic… Game 5 of the World Series. When she asked him where he was and his reaction, he said that he was probably curled up on a couch asleep… she called him out on it (because of the early start time, it’s highly unlikely that he was asleep at 9 PM) and he fumbled around and avoided the question. Is Schmitty weird or what? I mean, arguably the greatest player in franchise history did not care to watch the decisive game of the world series and was not excited about his team’s first WS victory in 28 years… that’s weird.

Chuck, I think that’s one of the reasons the fans never had a love affair with Schmidt, he never came across as someone you could relate to or embrace. We respected him for his amazing skills, but he never seemed thrilled to be in Philly, but I’m not sure if anything gives him a thrill, very low key, and, yes, pretty weird. But then, aren’t most really gifted people weird in their own way?

Well said, Georgie. Schmitty was a different type personality, but oh what a player!

Very good point… most really gifted people are weird. It’s just hard to believe that he cared so little. Whether you like the fans or not, the Phillies franchise gave him endless opportunities to succeed. He hasn’t done anything as a manager but he still manages to find a position within the organization…
