’93 Phils Headline Wall Of Fame Candidates

The Phillies named their Wall of Fame nominees, and … well … dig the ’90s:

Pitchers Jack Baldschun, Ricky Bottalico, Larry Christenson, Gene Garber, Jim Konstanty and Rick Wise; catcher Darren Daulton; infielders John Kruk and Fred Luderus; outfielders Lenny Dykstra, Doug Glanville, Greg Gross, Von Hayes and Roy Thomas; and manager Jim Fregosi.

Going by my 100 Greatest Phillies, Luderus would be the top inductee for 2009. But I can’t see him getting one of the top five fan votes; instead, I see Kruk, Dykstra, Daulton, Konstanty and Gross. I think. Who knows. Curt Schilling is still a few years away.

I would never put Schilling on the Wall of Fame. He left Philly in a disgusting manner and I would go out of my way to urinate on his plaque if such a thing was erected.

    I’m lobbying for Ricky Bo!

Well I sure cheered when he reached 300 strikeouts twice.

Yeah he hit 300 k’s then asked to be shipped out of town! Leave Schill off the Wall of Fame. Tell him we don’t have any space left. He lost my vote when he teased us a few years ago about coming back but in reality he used the Phillies to get what he wanted out of Boston. What a self-centered, arrogant prick.

Definitley Dutch and Krukker. I think one of those two would definitley get it, also Jim Fregrosi. Wouldn’t mind Von Hayes getting the nod either.

I voted Ricky Bo, Dutch, and Von Hayes. Ricky Bo because he was the star of the bullpen in his heyday and has gone on to become a great commentator. He was a quality pitcher and became an even bigger fan! I think he deserves a spot. Dutch, because he was the leader of the ’93 team and he’ll say some crazy stuff if he gets in. Von Hayes because he was the face of the franchise in the late eighties. For better or worse, he represented.

Sorry Schilling! We wanted to put you on the Wall of Fame but Jose Mesa won this year!

i’m just looking forward to dutch’s interviews if he gets in. i loved the dude, but he’s bananas. kruk is my #1 vote, but thats because he’s the reason i started loving the phillies as a 7 year old kid in indiana.

I agree with what Greg V said. Except switch Schilling with Ricky Bo.

to take a page from Victorino’s book…. Kruk #1, no questions asked.

C’mon guys, I wasn’t even that good. Three years of semi-solid relief on bottom dwelling teams makes the wall of fame? That speaks poorly of the franchise in my opinion.

Ricky Bo should not be on the wall of fame for exactly what he stated himself above (obviously some one joking). He was a solid pitcher with an All Star nod and then fell off the face of the earth. My opionin is the Wall of Fame is the best of the Phillies (personally and athletically). Schilling is questionable to me because of his personality with our organization, Kruk/ Dalton might need to wait another 1-2 years possibly. I would vote for Konstanty and then Kruk or Dalton. Tough decisions since no one on there is a lay up.

Ricky Bo over Kruk, Dalton, Dykstra, Hayes, even Baldschun….. NO WAY!

Lenny Dykstra. He was everything that the Phils embodied. No one else will ever be more of a Phillie than he.

I vote for John Kruk, Jim Konstanty, Lenny Dykstra, Darren Daulton and Jack Baldschun(an excellent and overlooked relief pitcher)

“YOU THINK YOUR JOB SUCKS? TRY WORKING FOR LENNY DYKSTRA.”

I only had time to read the first 5 pages so far, my jaw has now dropped to the floor, and at my age it takes some shocking stuff to have that effect. He is the lowest form of life there is, no respect for anyone, just unbelievable. I will finish that article, and then have to take a shower so none of that filth rubs off. Disgusting, just disgusting.

Some pretty solid choices from which to pick. Baldschun indeed has been underrated and deserves some kind of recognition.

Konstanty would be my preference because he was an MVP and there is no way the Phils win the 1950 pennant without his performance. At that point it was the greatest single season of relief pitching in baseball history. He slumped badly in 1951 but after that became a reliable though not spectacular pitcher for several seasons even winning 14 games as a reliever and parttime starter in 1953.

Kruk and Daulton are also worthy choices
