Above anything else, the thing that I will always remember Alfonseca for is grabbing the giant hose and spraying down me, along with the rest of the crowd behind the dugout and along the 1st base line after clinching the NL East on the last day of the season. :) What a great day!!!!

I can’t get down on Alfonseca. His ’07 numbers are far from impressive, but he was solid at a time when there weren’t any alternatives

EL Pulpo’s contirbutions at the end of the year were forgettable when his arm was dead. People forget that he saved our rears the first couple of months. No way was this a bad season all in and the Phils don’t make the playoffs without his contribution.

I love this list. It kicks ass where it is deserved. The analysis of each entry is somewhat analogous to a clinician’s report on a seriously ill patient. Those numbers are appalling. And it only gets worse from here.

I couldnt disagree with this more. The dude did everything we asked for and more…Cant under estimate the saves at shea…and that hop he had from the release of the pitch to a celebratory punch will always have a special place in my heart

El Pulpo… the octopus.

He did help us when we needed it… and he seemed like a good teammate (smiling with teammates and always really focused on the mound). He might have put up some awful numbers but he definitely helped us get into the postseason.

But the 1 month he did well was th eone we needed him the most. When we lost our closer(s) in ’07 he stepped up for a 4-5 week period. Granted he was pretty bad the rest of the time.

i agree that he must have not liked pitching during the day. We fans didn’t like him pitching either.

personally alfonseca was the coolest guy at bp and would always talk to the kids and also gave many balls away he mite not have been a great pitcher but has to b better then geary!!!
