This list is pure gold. I think it underscores how tough it can be trying to pitch at the major league level. Byrd’s DWIPP is the most shocking one thus far. The facial expression in the graphic speaks volumes.

Because he wasn’t good at calling pitches, he was probably one of the worst catchers in Phillies history, it came out more towards the end of his career that no one wanted him to catch them but being the everyday catcher there wasn’t much chance of changing that. When Ruiz and Coste came in it was obvious that the pitching starting getting better because of the bigger target behind the plate that they liked throwing to. Not trying to completely diss Lieby but that was always the feeling i got and it never seemed to go away.

I was comparing him in stuff only not saying he’s as successful as Moyer. Just saying that he’s been able to stick around for a guy his age without great stuff. Moyer is obviously far and away better, but you can’t deny that they aren’t very different in how they pitch, neither has a power arm and both rely on location location location, that’s where the similarities stop. So again NO i was not comparing the two based on their stats, just that they rely on being able to locate, Moyer is just more successful at it and was never a power pitcher where i believe if i remember correctly byrd had tommy john or some sort of arm surgery that forced him to rely more on location rather than power.

You are just trying to scare me right Justin? Comparing Byrd to Moyer…
I could not believe how average he pitched when in a different city, he was close to good some years but always mediocre.
If he would have been mediocre even while playing on the Phillies –
He stunk the joint up!

We all felt that Byrd had nothing left in the tank when we traded him away, and yet he’s still playing, well he’s looking for a job now i believe, but still thinks he can play. He’s very much similar to Jamie Moyer in that he’s not overpowering but he relys on locating his pitches and outsmarting the batters. I love that he has that throwback pitching style about him these days, whatever saves the arm i guess.
