Wait, now I’ve just read Amanda Orr and Justin’s posts and I’m confused. I originally thought the Eaton contract was a second contract and the Phillies owed him the money irregardless of whether or not he signs with someone else.

But NJ is suggesting that the Phillies will get some salary relief. So which is it?

Scott Lauber notes ‘he’ll cost the Orioles only $400,000, the major-league minimum salary. The Phillies will be on the hook for the rest of his $8.65 million salary in 2009 and their $500,000 buyout of his contract in 2010.’

note the REST of his salary. Makes sense that there is some provision in place to protect the releasing team to a small degree.

Amanda already said it and it’s been clear, we bought him out paying him his contract and this is a 2nd contract on top of that.

can’t find anything in the rulebook on minor league deals after a buyout. Seems to be a gaping hole in the system which leads me to think there must be some kind of agreement between the clubs to avoid players intentionally forcing their release to sign with another club.

Park giving up 1 run off a solo shot to Brian McCann in 3 innings is a very decent days work.

Is it just me or are names like Mayberry, Giles, Donald and Ozuna not getting you excited considering if these guys make the cut they will actually be seeing playing time rather than just benchwarming wearing number 25.

He cleared waivers, so the Phillies owe him the $8.5 million + next years buyout money. The Orioles are giving him another deal. If he makes the team, the Orioles pay him $400,000.

There’s probably a walk date if he doesn’t make the 25-man roster. There must be a provision otherwise that’s a glarring hole in the system, it’s not like the NFL where only the signing bonus is guaranteed not the salary so there must be something in place.

Was just thinking, If you’ve commited theft on a large massive scale then the Maryland area really ins’t where you want to move to now is it…

I think that Eaton is getting a second salary. He wasn’t picked up off of waivers, so I think he’ll get the minimum salary from the O’s while the Phillies are still on the hook for his huge salary this year as well.

By the way… J.Mayberry Jr. had another hit and SB today. M. Giles had a great day (2H, 2SB, 2R) and Slayden did well again (who??). Park and Myers were ok (3 innings each and 1 ER each). I would like to hear more aout their outings… stat lines can only tell you so much. With Rollins, Vic and the other WBC guys leaving the roster, I’m excited to see more of some of these other “potential” players.

I would imagine that the Orioles are agreeing to pick up $400,000 of his contract… is that correct? So that $400,000 would come off of our books. He couldn’t make any more money than what he’s already making. It’s a minor league deal… thought E_ton didn’t want to pitch in the minors… bum.
