YankeesWith Kyle Kendrick now in minor league camp, it’s literally JA Happ vs. Chan Ho Park for the fifth-day starter spot. Happ takes the hill today as the Phillies host the Yankees. Game time is 1:05 p.m.

Your lineup: Bruntlett (3B) / Werth (CF) / Utley (2B) / Howard (1B) / Ibanez (LF) / Stairs (RF) / Donald (SS) / Paulino (C) / Happ (P).

Good looking lineup today… when do Shane and Jimmy return?

My fingers are crossed for Happ to win the #5 spot. He has certainly paid his dues as a Phillies prospect.

    Any updates??? Where’s Rick F?

Not as thorough as Rick F:

Tied 1 – 1, bottom 4th. Wang is pitching for Yanks. Bruntlett and Ibanez have Phils’ 2 hits. Yanks’ run is unearned – errors by Bruntlett and Paulino.

It’s funny I can’t even call Happ a prospect because I don’t even remember him being on the radar before a year or two ago, yet when the Phillies drafted Donald and Marson i remember hearing their names since the draft through the system. Happ just seems to be one of those guys who just pitched and got moved through the system to the point that he was the best available option, then he was leapfrogged by Kendrick who had a great year 2 years ago, and although he allowed a lot of runs he still won 10 games last year.

My biggest concern is that if Happ doesn’t make the roster that he’ll be traded. I think that even if Park continues pitching the way he has we might really need Happ down the stretch or at the least for the rotation next year.

    Happ: 5 IP, ER (2 R), 3 BB, 3 K

Happ today: 1 ER in 5 innings pitched. Very good, especially if you take into consideration that he was on the mound facing the Yankees’ best.

Not a bad day for Happ… basically the Yankees starting lineup minus Jeter (btw… Jeter

    Ohhh Matt Stairs…

umm… half of my previous post was deleted.

*Yankees starting lineup minus Jeter and a rod (pronounced a rod with a soft “A”). Deflated, like his nards… no longer known as “A”-Rod.

    JETER

Looks like Happ is making a good case for starter #5 ….Put Park in the bullpen after Hamels comes back..And where is Rick F today?

Hard to argue against Park making the rotation the way the guy’s been pitching. The guy said he wanted to earn the starting spot and he’d do whatever it takes. I’m thinking he starts in the rotation, with Happ in the pen till Romero comes back. Who knows how the rotation will be 50 games in, maybe Happ joins in then.

I just left bottom of 6th and someone had just hit a 2run homer!!! Score was 5-3 phils and it had started to rain quite hard so it might have been called???

    I miss Rick F too

Happ was NOT GOOD in the pen last year if you remember.I think they have to either start him or send him down.

That’s going to be a pretty stacked rotation in Lehigh this year if Happ, Carrasco, and Kendrick start there. I wonder who’s the ace if they all start there.

    How about Bruntlett?

Batting .340 this spring. Gotta be in with a shout of making the team, no?

Kendrick should be the #4 or #5 for the Iron Pigs..

Bruntlett is definitely on the team..

I read that Donald and Mayberry are starting in AAA, because its more important to play everyday for the young guys’ development..

It was a link from the 700 level, and said that Manuel told the writer that.. but there was no direct quote… so who knows.

That’s what I’ve been saying all along I just can’t see sitting Mayberry or Donald on the bench when they’re still considered prospects and have options left for the minors, if they didn’t have options left ok that’s something different you really don’t have a choice but to put them on your bench to keep them. These guys have never sat on the bench since they entered our system and for them to have to start that way in the majors, won’t help their progression. Neither one of them have really had much time in AAA, Mayberry played in the PCL i believe last year but this is a different division just like going AL to NL or vice versa it takes time to adapt.
