Posts, Spring Gameday

Kyle Kendrick is the starter as the Phillies host the Twins today at Bright House Field. Chan Ho Park was the scheduled starter, but a tweaked hamstring delayed his start. He should be fine to pitch Tuesday.

The lineup: Cairo (SS) / Dobbs (RF) / Utley (2B) / Howard (1B) / Mayberry (CF) / Stairs (LF) / Feliz (3B) / Coste (C) / Kendrick (P).

Oddly enough, I don’t get CSNphilly here in the mountains of TN.

    Oh, just act surprised.

Since we found the “innanet” down here, I can do the MLB.TV thing while my neighbors hunt deer in their back yard

…and put that one in the win column for the Twins.

Well, I live in a supposedly “civil” area, but my next door neighbor likes to shoot stray cats, and the guy behind me gets drunk off his arse on 4th of July and shoots bottle rockets into our yard. Needless to say I don’t venture off of my own property too often, and stay indoors on the 4th.

Kendrick goes down to AAA with a poor outing today, I’m afraid.

i think he already is in AAA

Yeah, you’re right. He had a little bad luck with a couple of seeing eye singles there in the 1st, but I’m afraid someone is cleaning out his locker without him knowing.

Demote KK now. He’s just bad anymore. He needs to go to the minors and redevelop himself, a 3rd pitch and confidence are much needed.

Surprise, surprise. KK gets 2 ER on 3 hits in his first inning of the day.

This is almost a shame. The Phils had better stop the bleeding with this kid right away. He needs to head to the minor league camp and start working on things without the big league pressure cooker on. He had a decent career ahead of him but his confidence has got to be about zero right now. The Phils need to step in and put him in the right situation to get him straightened out. Personally, I don’t think that is the Major League right now.

Kendrick appears under control now… In his last 3 innings: 2 hits, 3 Ks, and 0 runs allowed.

The kid righted the ship nicely. Good to see.

Another great inning for Kendrick, with no hits/runs allowed and a strikeout..

The naysayers may have to withhold their putdowns of Kendrick at the moment as he gave himself a much needed boost today in competing for the 5th spot in rotation. The line for his performance today reads 5.0 innings, allowing 2 runs, 5 hits, 1 bb and 4 k’s. Not bad at all.

Also to those who don’t follow the Phillies everyday and not give reliever Clay Condrey his due credit for last season. Here is a news item that includes the manager’s (Manuel) comments :

” Condrey’s role was important for the 2008 world champions last summer.
In his third season with the Phillies last summer, Condrey was 3-4 with a 3.26 ERA. After April, he had a 2.83 ERA for the final five months of the season.
“He throws better than what people give him credit for,” Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. “He was a staff saver for us.”
When Manuel thinks about last season, the Phillies manager often brings up the bullpen fairly quickly in the conversation. In that bullpen, Condrey rose to the challenge in the latter stages of the season—he had a 1.04 ERA in nine games in September as the team chased down their second straight NL East title.
“I think in the last couple years, Condrey has done a heck of a job for us; he got some big outs and some times it goes unnoticed,” Manuel said. “But he pitches in games that really meant something during the season last year, down toward the end, and he did a tremendous job.”

BTW, Condrey in today’s game pitched two more scoreless innings of relief to lower his ERSA to 1.23 for Spring exhibition games.

Kendrick not awful… take that confidence back to AAA and work on some things…

Junior goes 2-4 with a double (his sixth of ST) and a stolen base. Loving what he’s been doing.

Stairs, Jenkins and Coste go a combined 0-10 with 5 LOB… remind me why we’re keeping any of them?
