An Andy Martino story confirms Brad Lidge will throw for the Phillies today in an intrasquad game.
It’ll be Lidge’s first game action since the final out of the 2008 World Series.

can we expect the same reaction if he gets the save?

I hope Lidge takes it easy. His slider is so dynamic that it must put a helluva strain on his forearm.

I would be ok if Lidge threw all Fastballs and watched everyone get throttled. I don’t want him throwing too many sliders, just fastballs to warm his arm up. He is so important to this team that a long term injury to him could be disatrous.

Also, if the dude is going to blow a few saves, now is the time to do it. What is the record for consecutive saves, 89? He’s 35 away from the record. That seems possible.

My thought is not how many consecutive saves Lidge may have but for him to be 100% healthy before the real season starts. I’ll breathe a sigh of relief to see him do ok WITHOUT any negative after effects in today’s intrasquad game. Perish the thought of the Phillies not having Lidge available once the season starts. The team would be in a serious quandary without a “lights out” closer.
