Charlie Manuel was absent from Saturday’s and Tuesday’s games for undisclosed personal reasons: turns out he was preparing for a colonoscopy.

Manuel suffered from diverticulitis 10 years ago and stressed that a colonoscopy is a routine procedure for those who have suffered from the serious colon condition.

Manuel is unsure when the procedure will occur; he says he feels fine and the reports are good.

No wonder he blew up on the boys the other day. If I had an impending colonoscopy I would’ve been cranky too. However, his teams play against the Yanks could’ve had a big part in it.

I wish Charlie the best… I would take a bullet for that man.

I hope everything is ok with Charlie, I thought he looked like he lost some weight since last season. He has had more than his share of health problems over the years, he’s one of the truly good guys so let’s all send him our best vibes(and/or prayers, whichever works for you).

This is what I call in-depth reporting. Everyone over age 50 should have regular colonoscopies. The actual procedure is mostly embarrassing, but the preperation really is the aggravating part. Maybe Tim will share some colon photos with us. I’m glad I’m not the only one who gets this procedure.

This isn’t the time for toilet humor… That said guess Charlie’s doctor was calling for a change-up low and inside.

Boy, this doesn’t seem like it’s any of my business to know.

It is recommended for everyone over 50 Burr – should not be a big deal but the timing is a little off.
Figure, if it was just routine the scheduling would have taken place prior to this. Just speculating of course. The procedure is embarrassing but you are in la-la land – the prep is the bear.

I was 23 when I had one done… The prep was a nightmare. Thankfull all was well, but I need them done every 5 years. If anyone was offended, that is why I joke. Brooks, the prep sucks… all that liquid and then… Sh*tin your brains out for 12 hours. Not cool. Not cool at all.

To Brooks….I was wide awake and watching it on a color monitor. The doctor didn’t use any kind of anstesia. So much for being in la-la-land.

Just had one of those done the end of February. Gave me an anesthetic thru the IV which is supposed to put you in a twi-light consciousness but this is my second colonoscopy and I went out like a light both times. I agree that the preparation is the worst part of it with that gallon of mixed prep that you have to drink. I had to drink half of the gallon the night before and the remaining half the next morning as I had a late afternoon procedure. Two days before I also had to drink eight ounces of a laxative early in the evening. Results of the procedure were that I have the same condition Charlie Manuel has and also found three polyps which were removed. In regards to that prep that you have to take, it comes with light fruit flavorings which makes it more palatable but still not very pleasant to say the least, not when you have to drink a gallon of it. The easiest part was the procedure itself.

Sorry to get so long with this but maybe can provide some info from experience for someone who has to go thru one for the first time. Sending my best wishes to Charlie. Have to go thru the procedure every three years now because of what was found.
