I see that no one (including Tim) picked up on this comment by Park in an interview after the game:

“My changeup worked pretty good today, especially against left-handers,” Park said, adding that teammate Jamie Moyer taught him the pitch earlier in the week.

Adding this pitch to his repertory give him an added edge for the 5th spot in rotation. Again, Moyer shows his veteran presence to be a vital factor for the team.

Zolecki’s blog says that just before Mayberry’s 3 run blast, Ryno hit a foul ball so hard through the press box window that it put a hole in the drywall of the back wall of the press box…20 ft behind the window it sailed through….

OAV isn’t a perfect acronym in the sense that each letter stands for it’s abbreviation. It’s opponent’s batting average if I’m not mistaken. And a 1.69 OAV is impossible, I think. More like a OAV of .169…I’m pretty sure I’m right…

I agree with everything you have just said except for the fact that Giles is going to be on the opening day roster. I would say Mayberry Jr. is the favorite, but we will see. I’ll go out on a limb and say that Mike Cervanek will not be on the opening day roster.

Personally, I think Hamels, Myers, Moyer, Blanton, and Park has the chance to be one of the best rotations in the NL.

Hamels is the front line ace, Myers can be a dominant number two, Blanton and Moyer are both innings eaters, and Park seems like a man on a mission. People discount him, but pure stuff wise I think he has a good chance to be a real asset as a starter.

Just for fun, here are my predictions on the Phils opening day roster.

SP- Hamels, Myers, Moyer, Blanton, Park

RP- Lidge, Madson, Eyre, Durbin, Condrey, Happ, Majewski

Infielders- Howard, Utley, Rollins, Feliz, Dobbs, Giles, Bruntlett, Ruiz, Paulino

Outfielders- Werth, Victorino, Ibanez, Jenkins

I think Coste and Stairs will be traded, Majewski takes over Seanez’s role, Utley and Feliz are ready opening day, and Park wins the starting job which slides Happ into the Bullpen. I will also go out on a limb and say that Giles beats out everyone for the bench job.

Any disagreements?

I know this is off the thread a little bit. but i have never been a stats guy and I was wondering if someone could tell me what
OAV and WHIP stand for in a pitchers stat line. WHIP walks and hits per inning pitch, could that be right please help me thank you

Of course, thats if Myers finds a happy medium between the first and second half of his season last year. He is obviously not as bad as the first half, but he’s not as good as his second half. I think that is the main intangible.

I don’t know Chutley, I think our rotation is pretty decent. It’s certainly not the best in baseball, but I really can’t think of a better 5 top to bottom other than the Cubs and Red Sox. I’m sure there are other teams that have a better rotation, but I really can’t think of them at the moment, and if they are better, they are not better by much.
