The Yankees brutalized the Phillies, 12-0, Monday at Steinbrenner Field.
Kyle Kendrick was tagged for five runs (four earned) in four innings. Early on Yankee hitters were drilling his offerings. Kendrick’s attempts at locating his fastball were futile, so those thrown right over the plate received happy gestures by the Bombers. Though he settled down in the second and third, Kendrick made his own bed in the fourth, letting up a hit and walking a batter before the wheels flew off from the defense. Costly errors by Jason Donald and Ryan Howard (though the ball hit to him wasn’t actually recorded an error) opened the door for the Yanks to stake out to a 5-0 lead.
Bobby Mosebach and Jake Woods made it a laugher, as the Phils bumbled about to a 11-0 deficit. Ryan Madson let up a run in the eighth; Scott Eyre, meanwhile, struck out three in a strong inning.
The offense was just as bad. The Phils couldn’t materialize much off starter Joba Chamberlain — Howard for one looked completely lost. The only bright spot offensively was Geoff Jenkins, who slinked a double down the left-field line and walked once.

From what i heard, that was not all Kendrick’s fault. His big inning, it sounds like he should of got out of with a double play by Donald. Or the next play, if Howard doesn’t fumble the ball.
It seems like Kendrick is facing the tougher teams when goes out there, but maybe he is just showing his true colors as well.

even the outs were loud outs.
they were drilling the ball all over the plate.
Errors happen…
you don’t see Cole melt down after an error.
go get the next guy out.
don’t fall apart which is what Kendrick does.
I’m thankful for wat he did in ’07…but the fact is he doesn’t have it and with the NL easy being what it is this year, I don’t trust him to get people out

Sean: The fourth was a combination of bad defense, tough hits and bad pitching. The truth is Kendrick doesn’t create many outs. Most outs are hard-hit. That showed yet again today. He nibbles too much. He has no definite out pitch and lefties can rake him.
The main problem with all this is because Kendrick can’t create outs, he relies on defense too much. Like today, that becomes costly a lot of times. You can’t just let the guys behind you do everything. Pitchers HAVE to be out creators.
Compared to Happ and Park, Kendrick has no shot. The other two create outs.

He’d be facing these same “tough” teams in the regular season too… Spring Training games are almost always easier lineups due to the minor leaguers getting at-bats..
Kendrick has a 3% chance of being the 5th starter

Wow. So it looks like Happ or Park. I really thought coming into the spring that Kendrick was gonna get it. Now we’re getting to the point that if Park continues to pitch well that, all things being equal, you have to give him the shot over Happ. By all accounts, he was told when he signed he could compete for a starting slot. Couple that fact, along with the “service time” issue for Happ, and it looks like the Seoul Man gets slotted in at 5. Let me be the first to say. Historically, Park stinks. But who has a good #5 these days anyway? Lets just hope that Cole isn’t flying out to see Dr. Frank Jobe on Wednesday so Park doesn’t become a 4.

So far its the best I have seen park throw. But its only spring training. Maybe someone will come from carrasco ,or one of the younster like drabek or savery

You are always ripping Howard….I dont get it. 2nd in MVP 48 and 146. Wouldnt have been in the playoffs without his September. He’s looking good this spring except for yesterday, yet youve ripped him in two posts today.
