Can This Trend Produce Another Title?

Posts, Raising Questions
Yesterday the Phils were down, again, very early. And once again it was from the longball — one powerful, Herculean shot by “His Name Is” Dan Uggla.
And once again the Phillies had to come back — this time in the latest possible moment: A two-out grand slam by Shane Victorino.
The Phillies have once scored first in a game.
A starter has yet to go a game without giving up a home run.
This begs the question: Can the Phillies repeat this way? Is there any way this brand of baseball can produce a first-place finish and second-consecutive world championship?
At some point this formula will cease and the Phils will, hopefully, lead a second game first. But talk amongst yourselves; It has been a scary trend.

Enjoy the weather today. I just bought a car (check it out on my twitter page), so we’re going low and slow this Saturday. Go out and play.

I think this trend will give the Phillies confidence down the stretch that they are never out of a game, but hopefully they start getting ahead early. No one can always count on late inning heroics.

Listen, this is no big deal. The season is only 15 games in and the Phils are still hovering around .500, with no pitching. When the pitching clicks this team will be fine. So far an 8-run comback win against Atlanta, a bottom of the ninth walk off HR versus Milwaukee & the big GS by Shane last night. That’s three dramatic wins… so far, which show the fight in these guys. Wait until the starting pitching kicks in.

As long as they count who has the most runs and not what order they’re scored in it doesn’t always matter. I’ll take the 7 in the 9th over the 3 in the first, for example.

Considering that their starters have the worst ERA in the NL and the offense has been dormant at times during the season, I think they are very fortunate be just a game under .500. That should give them confidence for when the pitching does improve which I think it will. Plus, it is a very long season, and its still too early to get a guage on this team or any other team for that matter. That being said it would be nice to see one of our starters not give up the long ball and go deep into a game.

hmm actually Phillies scored first in another game too. they had 5 runs in the 1st in the first Padres game before losing that game too 8-7 lol.
so maybe u should say they haven’t had the combo of scoring first and winning lol.

I wonder if the Phils hadn’t won it all last year if this enthusiasm would still be present. They are very, very fortunate to be close to .500.

Who knows how the Phils would be playing if they hadn’t won last year? Are we talking they lose the division and their pitchers didn’t have an extra month’s work, for example?

Hey guys, look at calendar. In spite of summer-like weather today, it’s still April and only 15 games played. As one poster here mentioned, it’s way too early to “.. get a gauge on this team” and pass judgement.

You know, I looked at last year’s standings as of April 16, when they completed their 15th game. They were 7-8, in third place in the division, same as they are now with 15 games complete. I’m not worried. This is a team that tends to start the season slow but never gives up.
