Gameday 2009, Posts
Milwaukee Brewers (5-9) at Philadelphia Phillies (6-7)
Dave Bush (0-0, 5.40 ERA vs. Cole Hamels (0-1, 11.17 ERA)
Time: 1:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia.
Weather: Mostly sunny, 56
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Last year, the Phillies offense slipped up in one game of the National League Division Series against the Brewers. That game was against right-hander Dave Bush. Guess who’s pitching against the Phillies today?
Bush is carrying a 5.40 ERA, coming off two mediocre starts that showed promise. He was promising to Milwaukee fans in game three of that NLDS, holding the Phils to one run over five-plus innings. For his career, he has trouble against Greg Dobbs (.462, 2 HR), Ryan Howard (.357, 2 HR) and Chase Utley (.444, HR) more than any other Phillie hitters.
The Phillies will send out Cole Hamels, whose first start was atrocious and second start was a little better, but still poor for his standards. His fastball improved in velocity, however, making potential for a strong start today very high. Last time he faced the Brewers he dominated them, pitching eight shutout innings in game one of the NLDS. JJ Hardy has the most success against him, hitting .367 with a home run.
This Business Person’s Special is the final game of the now six-game homestand with the Phils standing at 2-3. They can also even up their 2009 record with a win today.
Your gameday beer: Time for Cole Hamels to check-ity check himself. And what better way than with a Pilsner Urquell, the finest in Czech pilseners. A golden beer with a sweet, hoppy taste, it’s light enough to drink on a warm spring day (well, this 55-60-degree weather will have to do). Eat a turkey sandwich with this one.
Go Phillies!

I hope all the Phillies players pound Bush today…hit it right up the middle.

Same lineup as yesterday, except with Coste catching. I would have liked to have seen Dobbs get a start against Bush, especially with Cole, a strikeout pitcher, on the mound.

Dobbs is a career 6-for-13 against Bush.. with 2 HR, 5 RBI… seems like a good time to get him a start..
Howard .357 in 14 at-bats.. 2 HR, 4 RBI
Utley .444 in 9 at-bats, 1 HR, 1 RBI
Werth struggles against him, but Stairs hits him well.. wonder what we’ll see today

Yea just saw that lineup… come on Charlie get the bench guys a game to get hot..
Feliz and Werth are swinging good bats right now, but this is what kills me.. now on Sunday he’ll have like Dobbs playing 1b, Bruntlett at 3b, Cairo at 2b.. etc

Ahh-h.. one of my favorite beers. I have fond memories of my first taste with this beer in a Czech restaurant (I don’t remember the name) in NYC.. on the upper East side of Manhatten so many years ago.
All eyes on Hamels. Let’s go Phillies!

I’m gonna make a bold prediction and say that Hamels will manage to drop his ERA some with this game.

I’ll make another bold prediction and say there are at least a handful of a-hole fans who boo Cole because of his “not ready” statement this week.

Corona is the bomb too.. OR “Poor Man’s Corona” which is Miller High Life with Lemon, instead of Lime
holla
Cole Hamels, strikeout leadoff man.
Hart singles up the middle.. Strikeout-Caught Stealing double play to end the 1st. you know it

I remember a play by play announcer saying something along the lines of “When Fielder sits on a pitch like that, he crushes it” and I couldn’t help thinking, when Fielder sits on anything he crushes it.
Damn 4 strikeouts for Cole. Hope he keeps it up!

5 of the first 6 batters whiffed. Listening on the radio at work, whats his fastball clocking at?
Pilsner Urquell is a solid, hearty beer. Labatt Blue is one of the few beers that can actually quench thirst – very solid. Ice cold Molson Canadian is underrated too (good beers for the early winter and nhl playoff run).

Normally hes 90-92, so his arm isnt all the way in mis-season form. But when Coles command is on he doesnt need a big heater…

Ryan Braun owns the Phillies now. The pitching coach should be fired because Ive never seen a team give up so many home runs! Wed haev a great season so far if not for those HR balls.

Hamels out, Ja Happ in. Hamels will be taken for X-Rays/etc. Got drilled in the shoulder – the left shoulder – with a Prince Fielder comeback line drive.
Take note: they should intentionally throw at Fielders head or knees next time hes up.

Kyle, it was a line drive off the fattest guy in the league that hit Cole on his upper left arm/shoulder area, it looked and sounded pretty ugly. Updates coming….

I would say that Bush and Looper are below average. But theyre sinkerballers. Theyre like 4th or 5th starters basically.

Hopefully it’s just a contusion… one thing is for sure, he’ll be feeling it tomorrow!
When you let Fielder sit on a pitch, he crushes it… when you let Fielder sit on anything he crushes it… nice one, Evan.

Howard’s defense cost the Phils 3 runs in that inning. I know he’s been trying and working extra hard on his defense, but that was an easy DP and he blew it.

Damn. 5 runs again. what a dog dirt performance by this team today. This guy has a freaking no hitter and he sucks.

Chris Coste should be DFA when ruiz comes back because he is HORRIBLE! Rich Dubee should be fired and Moyer should be hired as his replacement – as a player/coach if he wont retire yet. If Rollins runs his mouth one more time hell be on a plane to Toronto for Halladay before he knows what hit him. Miguel Cairo sucks too.
