Gameday 2009, Posts
Milwaukee Brewers (5-9) at Philadelphia Phillies (6-7)
Dave Bush (0-0, 5.40 ERA vs. Cole Hamels (0-1, 11.17 ERA)
Time: 1:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia.
Weather: Mostly sunny, 56
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Last year, the Phillies offense slipped up in one game of the National League Division Series against the Brewers. That game was against right-hander Dave Bush. Guess who’s pitching against the Phillies today?
Bush is carrying a 5.40 ERA, coming off two mediocre starts that showed promise. He was promising to Milwaukee fans in game three of that NLDS, holding the Phils to one run over five-plus innings. For his career, he has trouble against Greg Dobbs (.462, 2 HR), Ryan Howard (.357, 2 HR) and Chase Utley (.444, HR) more than any other Phillie hitters.
The Phillies will send out Cole Hamels, whose first start was atrocious and second start was a little better, but still poor for his standards. His fastball improved in velocity, however, making potential for a strong start today very high. Last time he faced the Brewers he dominated them, pitching eight shutout innings in game one of the NLDS. JJ Hardy has the most success against him, hitting .367 with a home run.
This Business Person’s Special is the final game of the now six-game homestand with the Phils standing at 2-3. They can also even up their 2009 record with a win today.
Your gameday beer: Time for Cole Hamels to check-ity check himself. And what better way than with a Pilsner Urquell, the finest in Czech pilseners. A golden beer with a sweet, hoppy taste, it’s light enough to drink on a warm spring day (well, this 55-60-degree weather will have to do). Eat a turkey sandwich with this one.
Go Phillies!

Okay, for those with a TV, how accurate is the GameCast strike zone compared to the strike zone in real life? It seems like they’ve been getting middle-in pitches, but I guess not. I can’t tell.

GameCast always looks awful there always seems to be bad pitches for strikes and strike zone pitches for balls.

The worst one is the Fox K-Zone. It says everything is a ball.

Gamecast earlier showed Happ throwing 4 straigh pitches one of which was dead-center.. all of them well within the strike-zone… all of the were called BALLS

I love Howard but man you got to finish that double play. If he does we avoid that bad inning by fatso. Howard scares me making easy plays. He cant hit homers, rollins cant get on base. This team has lost its focus..
HEY anyone looking for great tickets. May 9 braves. 102 Second row. Two tickets Isle seats. 100 bucks for two. I paid 120 and cant go. Friends suprise party. Please let me know on here.

Now you’re Jarvis? You were Matt one day, and Jeff another. Don’t think too many people would trust paying you any $$ for tickets when you seem to change your name every time you post on here. Good luck though.

Anybody else wish that Lidge still threw 95-97 like he used to?

Not to me it didn’t, Chase. He really crowded the plate and caught one in the shoulder area.

Jarvis and his other personalities should get together with Brett Myers and his “friends”, they might have enough people for a pick-up game.

Mike, he probably will once a couple of months go by. It takes pitchers several appearances to build their arm strength up and top out at their velocity. They usually don’t do it this time of year.

and the awful game is over. losing 2 of 3 to the lowly freaking brewers, who have no bullpen, scrubs for starting pitchers and we lose 2 of 3, unreal. Why is it every Philly team plays down to their competition yet it seems everyone else can smack around the lesser teams.

Flyers push the series back to Philly for Game 6 and come from behind to win the series, heard it here first.

Ya know, even before this season started, I was thinking how anti-climactic it will be this year. They achieved the most that they can, you can’t get any better or go any higher. Maybe it’s just as tough for them, it shouldn’t be that way, but it is a fact.

Justin, do you really feel that way or are you just trying to be positive, cause I don’t feel quite that sure, something’s missing with that team, imo.

I think the Flyers will push it to 7th game at least. If the Flyers lose this series John Stevens has to go. They have WAY to much talent to be that undisciplined and lose that early.

Charlie said Cole didn’t want to leave the game, he’s “pretty sure” he’ll be ok for his next start.

They’ve been playing well since game 2, the bounces didn’t go their way at the end of the 2nd game and it didn’t go their way in Game 4, a couple of those shots on net early in Game 4 or any of those power plays end up with goals its a game that’s in our hands. They have the ability to beat sid the dick and evgeni malkin.

They’ve been playing great hockey since improving in the 2nd game. Game 3 they blew the Pens away the 4th game Fleury had to be super powered to stop 45 shots like that so it took a remarkable performance from Fleury, who’s vastly overrated, for us to lose, a couple bounces go our way that game its 2-2 goin back to pittsburgh. This is it for the Flyers win or go home, they’re going to go all engines go tonight and blow cindy and evelyn off the ice.

Flyers suck. Lets go Rangers. Knock that Russian out of the playoffs. Waste. You cant score off of the wall. Dont you wish you had him Flyer fans. You have two pukes of goalies and Carter who cant score in big games. LETS GO RANGERS.

Geoff, I don’t know if you can really put all the blame on Stevens, but that’s probably what will happen if they go out this early. They got themselves in trouble with the cap, and that’s Holmgren’s fault.

A lot of teams have problems with the cap and now the Andrew Friedmans of the world and Theo Epsteins are going to come through the cracks and help manage the cap for these hockey teams because these NHL teams have never worked with a cap before, and most likely won’t have to come the next collective bargaining agreement i don’t think anyone really likes it especially the players since they can’t get top dollar with all these teams scrambling to hold budgets.
