Gameday 2009, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (2-3) at Colorado Rockies (3-2)
Chan Ho Park vs. Aaron Cook (0-0, 23.14 ERA)
Time: 3:10 p.m. at Coors Field, Denver
Weather: Rain, 42
TV: MyPhl 17
Twitter: Phillies Nation
If this one happens, we’ll see Chan Ho Park take the mound for his first start as a Phillie. Park impressed during spring training, flashing a ridiculous strikeout-to-walk ratio (25 to 2) to help secure him the fifth-starter job against JA Happ and a host of others. Park is opposed by Aaron Cook, the Rockies opening-day starter who was bruised by Diamondback home runs Monday.
Luckily for the Phillies, Cook boasts a 6.14 ERA, giving up 52 hits in seven appearances (six starts). Not so luckily, Chan Ho Park hasn’t been great at Coors Field (62 IP, 5.66 ERA).
Last night the Phils took down the Rockies, 8-4, thanks to some heavy hitting from Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth, among others. So far Werth has hit a cycle in Colorado (single, two doubles, triple, home run). Shane Victorino added three hits in the victory, raising his average to a respectable .250. Unbelievably, the Phils collected their first stolen base of the season last night when Chase Utley took second. It was a pretty inconsequential steal. The Phils need to be more loose with the bag to help their cause.
Rain is the forecast all day in Denver, so we’ll see if this one gets in.
Your gameday beer: Nothing look a good Chimay Red to ease the soul. It’s a Dubbel, meaning it’s not quite a Tripel. No, I kid. But Chimay Red is a strong but smooth beer, sweet and tangy on the tongue without any bad aftertaste. Cloves and yeast, the whole bready thing, kind of just sift into your soul and flatten out. Well done, monks, well done.
Go Phillies!

To start everyone off with a smile ‘Adam’s getting Beaton’ with a WHIP that’s more fitting in S&M gear…
Lets go Phils!

Orioles hosting Rays today and the O’s trying to sweep them with Adam Eaton on the mound for them. Not good folks. Eaton is done for the day and his pitching line today: 4IP, 8H, 4R, 4ER, 2BB, 6K, WP, 0HR. ERA: 9.00/ Surprising 6K’s. Orioles losing 8-0 cause reliever Brian Bass allows 4more runs for the O’s. Pat Burrell in 18atbats for the Rays hitting .111 with 0hrs and 0rbis.

rollins, victorino and utley all ground out as phillies go 1-2-3 in the first. Cook just needed 8 pitches. patience phils. Fowler, Spilborghs, and Hawpe in the bottom of the first for the Rockies. 4:17am Monday morning in Korea as they get to see Ho Park start today for the first time as a phillie.

As I said Travis… Adam’s getting Beaton! Think Baltimore can claim Eaton off as a charitable contribution?

Fowler up first. Park gets ahead 0-2 but now a full count. 1 out as Fowler grounds out. NL EAST update: Marlins beat Mets at home 2-1. FLA starter Josh Johnson no-hit bid broken up in the 6th by Luis castillo. Marlins now 5-1. Mets 3-3. Spilborghs gets the game’s first hit as he singles to left. Hawpe comes to bat. Just to tell folks the 25:1 strikeout to walk ratio was totally beserk for Park in the spring. All time Park has struck out 1590 batters and walked 858. Full count on Hawpe now.

Is there some kinda new rule that states that the 2008 World Series champs have to sport all future opponents 2 runs in the first inning??

Gonna take some gappers to get back into this one… Looks like we’ll be seeing Happ in at one end of the rotation sooner than we thought.

Reminder Travis, for some such as Burrell, it will take awhile to know and adjust to AL pitchers.

And Bruce it’ll take Eaton a while to adjust to American League hitting… That one even made me laugh typing it!

Chan Ho sucks today… He better step it up and at least finish 4 innings with no more runs allowed. Our starting pitching is eating up our bullpen at this rate.

I had high hopes for Park after his super spring. Happ could be the staff ace the way the starters have looked so far! At least there’s nowhere to go but up for starting pitchers in Philly.

Hopefully Park settles in over his next couple starts. I still think he was a good pickup.

They were talking about how effective Park was with getting his breaking pitches into the strike zone in spring. I’m sure a rainy day at Coors Field isn’t good for a pitcher who’s going to rely on locating his breaking ball. I still have high hopes for him. He looked good in his two innings of relief earlier.

Madson is impressive. Throws a 90 mph fastball on the corner for a strike. Throws the exact same looking pitch to the exact same location, gets the hitter way out in front, 82mph changeup.
