Atlanta Braves (0-0) at Philadelphia Phillies (0-0)
Derek Lowe vs. Brett Myers
Time: 8:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
Weather: Mostly clear, 59
TV: ESPN2
Twitter: Phillies Nation
It’s all behind us: The incredible 2008 season, the world championship, the parade, the offseason, spring training. Here we are, with the bright lights of baseball glowing on Citizens Bank Park to open the 2009 baseball season. The eyes of the world are focused on the world champion Phillies, opening season No. 127 as the top team in the land. Brett Myers will throw the first pitch for the third season in a row; he’ll oppose Derek Lowe, who the Phillies defeated in game one of the 2008 National League Championship Series via home runs by Chase Utley and Pat Burrell.
The latter is no longer a Phillie; now Raul Ibanez is on board, with Chan Ho Park, Miguel Cairo and Jack Taschner joining him on the 25-man roster. Say goodbye to Geoff Jenkins and So Taguchi from the year-ending 25-man roster. JC Romero is also not on the roster, serving a 50-game suspension because of breaking the league’s drug policy.
The Braves return with a revamped pitching staff that includes Lowe, Kenshin Kawakami and Javier Vazquez, who the Phillies will see Wednesday.
Your gamenight beer: Truly the signal of a new season. Everyone turn your attention to the Grey Lodge, where tonight they’re serving Dogfish Head Red & White. A Witbier, it smells and tastes of citrus – oranges, lemons very evident. It’s clearly the wonderful taste of spring, rebirth, new life … and yes, baseball. Here’s to the world champions and a successful title defense in 2009.
Go Phillies!

Kinda wierd that Myers has started on opening day 3 years in a row, considering how he’s been a closer and down to AAA in that time. Hopefully Hamels makes it to opening day next year, touch wood. Go Phils !

i don’t have an dogfish head around, but i do have some “walt wit” from the philadelphia brewing company, which is a reasonable alternative.

Sadly, MLB Network is doing “30 Clubs in 30 Days” tonight. Have no idea why they’re not covering this game (pregame, postgame, etc.)

I love the Phillies. We will not win this year. Sorry. Moyer a year older and boy he can look bad. Cole alreay is with arm problems. To many lefties in our lineup. The mets will blast them. Watching howard vs a lefty makes me sick. Lidge wont be perfect. Sorry…

Doing a sorta-live blog thing on Twitter. The next-next-next best thing to actually being there. Lineup: Rollins/Werth/Utley/Howard/Ibanez/Victorino/Feliz/Ruiz/Myers

PHL 17 just completely ruined the team into by playing music over the crowd reactions to players. Unreal!

Peter G. calls muts to take division … how many times does a team have to collapse before people stop picking them as the postseason favorite.

Gammons is a senile old man who had a stroke. He’s also a has-been idiot.

Is it just me or are the Phillies wearing some kind of gold trim around the lettering on their uniforms?

Yes, Gammons is in the red sox back pocket… but it was still in poor taste to call out his stroke. We’re still the Champs… start the year off on a positive note

Totally irrelevant, but I wish the Phils would wear the red or blue alternate batting jerseys during game days sometimes.

Don’t know if that was a changeup Myers threw to McCann. If it was, he needs to not pitch it, especially on 2-0 counts.

I think that was a changeup, Tim…
He was cruising and then that homerun was horrible…
Oh god, another one by the Braves… Cmon Myers, settle down

That was the most middle-in pitch you could possibly throw. And to a first-pitch swinger, no less.

So far two bad decisions for Brett: Throwing his worst pitch on a 2-0 count to McCann, then throwing a middle-in fastball on a first pitch to a first-pitch guy. Now he’s dancing.
