Gameday 2009, Posts
WE’RE BACK: Clay Condrey is now in the game, taking over with one out and men at first and second in the top of the seventh. 11-3 Phillies.
***
RAIN DELAY: The Phillies currently lead the Brewers, 11-3, in the top of the seventh inning. Situation: Men on first and second, one out for Milwaukee; Chad Durbin pitching.
***
Milwaukee Brewers (4-8) at Philadelphia Phillies (5-6)
Manny Parra (0-2, 6.97 ERA vs. Jamie Moyer (1-1, 6.55 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia.
Weather: Mostly sunny, 64
TV: Comcast Network
Twitter: Phillies Nation
The Phillies grasped momentum Sunday with a big comeback win over the Padres, but the momentum stalled Monday, as the Phils were rained out of their series finale with San Diego. Now the Phils get a visit from the Brewers, the team they ousted in the 2008 National League Division Series.
Milwaukee comes in with an underwhelming 4-8 record, mainly because their big hitters are slumping. Prince Fielder is hitting .175, JJ Hardy his hitting .114 and Ryan Braun is hitting .222. Pitching has also been less than stellar, and it starts with Parra, who goes tonight holding an ERA of over 6.00. The Phillies saw him in the NLDS, briefly for 2.1 scoreless innings. Otherwise, Phils hitters beat him in 2008 pretty well. All five big-time Phillie regulars (Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jayson Werth, Shane Victorino, Jimmy Rollins) are hitting 1.000 off Parra in regular season play.
Jamie Moyer takes the hill for the good guys. He had a tougher time against Milwaukee in the NLDS, but pitched well against them in the regular season. The two Brewers with a lot of experience against the slow tosser are Jason Kendall (10-for-30) and Mike Cameron (2-for-11).
Tonight’s game is on the Comcast Network because of Flyers playoff hockey.
Your gamenight beer: Avant Garde Ale from the Lost Abbey (Calif.) is a Biere de Garde type of beer, which means it has a definitive toasty, bready sort of flavor. Fruit can be potent, but usually in small doses. It’s of a copper look, too, so it kind of sits well with a soup or stew. Maybe a good, strong bowl of barley with fresh, baked bread is in order. Or some chili. Whatever the case, enjoy this heartily.
Go Phillies!

I love the old school mb glove logo for the Brew Crew. I’m curious to see where Ibanez is hitting in the lineup against the lefty Parra.

As I sit here and watch DailyNewsLive, I feel the need to unburden myself of the fact that I absolutely hate Chris Wheeler. Who is this man? A nebishy, goofy, ass kissing, brown nosing, bad broadcasting, know-it-all, who found himself one day, inexplicably, sitting in front of the microphone broadcasting Phillies games. How did he get there? Who does he have pictures of? He never played baseball so I can’t take his “analysis” seriously. His voice is terrible. He’s not interesting or funny or witty or insightful. And it was all okay while Harry was around because people paid little attention to him. Now…it feels like when I’m in the bar talking to a cute girl and an ugly girl and then the cute girl leaves and sticks me with the mutt. Get this no talent, company man outta the booth. He sucks and always has. Harry didn’t even like him and that should tell you all you need to know. The only thing I like about Wheeler is when Gary Matthews picks on him for the inning he broadcasts with him. Thank you.
Sincerely,
The Dispy

I hear ya Amanda, I’ve got the Flyers on two channels but no Phillies.
We’re getting a storm here in Lancaster County, don’t know if it’ll hold together to hit Philly.

The Dipsy I couldn’t agree more. After Harry’s death I started dreading the thought of Chris Wheeler getting more air time! I much rather listen to Scott Graham who I think is a much better sportscaster.

If we’re patient at the plate, we can easily beat Manny Parra, who is struggling to find the strike zone

Rollins is falling back as he swings. Anyone else notice this. His back foot is moving back instead of staying planted.

Thats a boy JROLL keep the average going down you LA PUNK. Bring Donald up and get rid of this guy. Let him hang with Burris. Jroll means no talent. Two good years and bye bye bye

Anyone know why we are NOT running I mean lets play some small ball? Also I think Vic needs to lead off till JRoll gets his act together, He will he is not a flash in the pan Mike I beg to differ with that one

Mike, Rollins is actually an Oakland Punk, not an LA Punk. Huge, huge difference between those two cities. LA sucks, for one.

Not sure who is more frustrating right now the Iron Pigs or the Phils….. Iron Pigs gave up 3 runs in the 7th after Carrasco pitched 6 marvelous innings and of course can only manage 1 run at this point.

I think you all have to calm down about Rollins. Yeah, let’s give up the 2007 MVP and unquestioned heart of the team for Jason Donald right now. Rollins will come around.
Carrasco was terrific tonight.
I just heard seagulls outside my window. This is great.

Never liked Rollins. Put him at 6th in the order. Yes he had a great season in 07 but lets face facts. Holiday deserved it more.

Wow, people have really turned on J-Roll. Funny how the haters don’t mention his gold glove defense. Jason Donald couldn’t hold J-Roll’s jock.

Wow, funny how JRoll turned on the fans. I will never forgive him for those comments. I go to alot of games and we have a right to boo. Im tired of him with his excuses always saying different them Manual. Showing up late. Bad sign from a team leader.

Hey, anyone else live in north jerz and have comcast?
I recently got CN8 added to my channels, and the Phils game is listed in the guide, but a British broadcast of soccer is playing instead. What a tease, at least I have MLB.tv.

Yeah, what has J-Roll ever done for the fans, besides win an MVP and win a World Series? I guess some people love to boo but get their feelings hurt when a player speaks up on behalf of his teammates (Ruiz).

Ruiz is a big big boy and can muster enough english to defend himself. When you can hit in the big leagues you will get booed. Athletes should not bash the fans who pay there salaries. They should just go about there bus.

Rollins should, however, wait a couple pitches before taking a swing.

If I voiced my opinion I would be written up or fired. I do my job and keep my mouth shut and make 50 million less. That aboy JRoll get that average under your IQ

Mike, what did J-Roll really say?? I’ve been a die hard Phillies fan since I can remember, always rooting on the team and sticking by through thick and thin, and as far back as I can, for the most part when this team was not performing well, the crowd boos, they cheer when they win, that’s all well and good, and you can choose to support your team however you want to, but how were his comments really wrong??

Exactly, Rollins said absolutely nothing that wasn’t 100% correct. Complaining about Rollins 12 games into the season coming after a World Series victory is just silly.

He does his job too, and part of his job is to talk, for the people to focus on him, and take the focus off of members of his team….He’s done that time and again.
