Gameday 2009, Posts
WE’RE BACK: Clay Condrey is now in the game, taking over with one out and men at first and second in the top of the seventh. 11-3 Phillies.
***
RAIN DELAY: The Phillies currently lead the Brewers, 11-3, in the top of the seventh inning. Situation: Men on first and second, one out for Milwaukee; Chad Durbin pitching.
***
Milwaukee Brewers (4-8) at Philadelphia Phillies (5-6)
Manny Parra (0-2, 6.97 ERA vs. Jamie Moyer (1-1, 6.55 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia.
Weather: Mostly sunny, 64
TV: Comcast Network
Twitter: Phillies Nation
The Phillies grasped momentum Sunday with a big comeback win over the Padres, but the momentum stalled Monday, as the Phils were rained out of their series finale with San Diego. Now the Phils get a visit from the Brewers, the team they ousted in the 2008 National League Division Series.
Milwaukee comes in with an underwhelming 4-8 record, mainly because their big hitters are slumping. Prince Fielder is hitting .175, JJ Hardy his hitting .114 and Ryan Braun is hitting .222. Pitching has also been less than stellar, and it starts with Parra, who goes tonight holding an ERA of over 6.00. The Phillies saw him in the NLDS, briefly for 2.1 scoreless innings. Otherwise, Phils hitters beat him in 2008 pretty well. All five big-time Phillie regulars (Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jayson Werth, Shane Victorino, Jimmy Rollins) are hitting 1.000 off Parra in regular season play.
Jamie Moyer takes the hill for the good guys. He had a tougher time against Milwaukee in the NLDS, but pitched well against them in the regular season. The two Brewers with a lot of experience against the slow tosser are Jason Kendall (10-for-30) and Mike Cameron (2-for-11).
Tonight’s game is on the Comcast Network because of Flyers playoff hockey.
Your gamenight beer: Avant Garde Ale from the Lost Abbey (Calif.) is a Biere de Garde type of beer, which means it has a definitive toasty, bready sort of flavor. Fruit can be potent, but usually in small doses. It’s of a copper look, too, so it kind of sits well with a soup or stew. Maybe a good, strong bowl of barley with fresh, baked bread is in order. Or some chili. Whatever the case, enjoy this heartily.
Go Phillies!

This is a post from a famous phillies fan after the comment….
This gets me irratated. Jimmy Rollins had so much support last year because of how well he played, but this year since it’s an off year for him, he rips us. We DO have the entire teams back, and it’s so disturbing to hear a player say that he isn’t appreciating what the fans are saying. We want him to do well, and when he’s not he knows, and we make it known. Oh well, you’re getting paid to play baseball, not run your mouth. Good Job JRoll.

The hypocrisy of a fan being hypersensitive whenever a player speaks up for himself, telling J-Roll to have thicker skin when he is getting booed, is not lost on anyone.
I guess not all players are robots. Shame on them.

One more inning and he could still get a quality start, though.

And did you ever think, and realize, that baseball is a huge mental game, where you fail far more times than you succeed. That the players (even though they get paid large sums of money), still get mad when they screw up when they let their teammates down. They feel bad enough, and fail enough times in this game, and hearing 40,000 people boo you can’t help you out at all. When they are playing home games, they should be able to count on their “fans” to cheer for them, and let them know that we still have their backs and believe in them. (positivity helps!)
(btw..sorry if these comments come in slow, my internet is sucking right now.)

Raul stealing a base there just shows how he’s the anti-Burrell. Way to make it happen. The rest of that incredible half inning just came together after that. How about walking Moyer, what a terrible move!

Like so many others on here I suspect, I was mighty pissed when Ibanez signed and Pat (who) the Bat left. But I can honestly say I was DEAD WRONG. I liked Pat Burrell, but Raul Ibanez has been a freaking beast this season. If he makes a fielding mistake, he gets the runs back. Even if he doesnt make a mistake, he scores runs. Yet another game with at least 1 RBI and 1 R.

Raul has shown glimpses of brilliance, but it take a whole season for me to be impressed. I wanted alot from Jenkins but wasn’t rewarded.

I hardly say that .383 is a glimpse of brilliance. Not a whole season, but I will take it for now and be quite happy about it.

Well Florida lost again, thats a good thing, but the Mets are winning in St Louis. I wouldnt count the Cards out yet, hopefully the Mets lose. That would make a very good day.

The FLyers had to win Game 2, because Marty Stole that game for them and they blew it. Fleury stole this game tonight – unless a miracle occurs the Flyers are done. They have to wipe the slate clean and go all out in Game 5.

No you know what? Moyer is lucky they put up 11 runs or else hed be on the burner. I mean this guy might as well retire while hes ahead tonight and save the humiliation. Outstanding performance by the offense tonight. Its absurd they havent called this game yet. They should make Jamie Moyer finish out the game because I dont need to see him anymore, seya pal. Pat on the Back to the Lineup tonight.
