Gameday 2009, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (4-3) at Washington Nationals (0-7)
Joe Blanton (0-0, 15.75 ERA) vs. Shairon Martis (0-1, 9.00 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m. at Nationals Park, Washington, D.C.
Weather: Sunny, 59
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
It has been a trying 48 hours in Phillies Nation.
After defeating the Nationals Monday afternoon, the Phillies took to the task of proceeding without its famed voice. Harry Kalas passed away Monday afternoon at age 73, and a wealth of remembrances and eulogies caught the air immediately afterward. Since, the Phillies had a scheduled Wednesday night game, but an entire day and night of rainfall postponed that. Still no word on a makeup date.
The Nationals will toss out there Shairon Martis, a rookie would made his first appearance against the Phillies on Sept. 28, 2008, giving up a run in 2.1 innings. Also playing in the game: Lou Marson, who was playing his first major league game then. He recorded two hits including his first major league home run. And Marson gets the start behind the plate tonight.
Joe Blanton will be pitching to him – he had a rough last outing against Atlanta, though the Phils came back to win. He remains undefeated as a Phillie.
Your gamenight beer: Bell’s HopSlam Ale is the drink of choice tonight because I want the Phils to ring the bell tonight. Let’s go yard a few times to shake off the rust from the rest. This beer from the Michigan brewery is laced with caramel-laden hops, perfect for a cooling spring night such as this. Eat some light vegetarian chili with it.
Go Phillies!

Let’s go Phils! I’m really excited for this one. I think we have an emotionally charged team that can get it rolling. Also, Marson. Enough said?

TJ – It’ll be that extreme or the other. I tend to side with you but I think it’s also possible they come out and lay a total egg tonight. With the locker room the way it is though, I have a feeling we see a blowout tonight…also, i’m pumped for Marson. It’ll be interesting to see what happens should Marson really put up solid numbers while Ruiz is out

Our starting pitching sucks. Through and through. It’s like these guys forgot how to get guys out. Whenever we get guys on base, I’m not confident they’re coming home. However, I cringe everytime our opponents get ducks on the pond because it’s almost a guarantee now that someone’s going to jack one out of the park.

Man, tonights game looks just the same as every other game so far. Starting pitching is dead, the Phils cannot snif a hit – 6 up and 6 down – this aint right.

Brooks, Utley walked.
How much do Nats tickets cost? Can’t they give these things away? Even homeless people can pony up a dime for a ballgame.

hey guys … good to see you tonight. i think the phills will start their comeback around the 6th inning. some 60-70 percent of all their runs thus far have come right around there sooo, im not gonna worry just yet.

Im liking this Lou Marson character. Shows some hustle, speed, and smart base running. Just to put a silver lining on the guy. He also chased on an 0-1 pitch out of the zone but then stayed away from the same pitch that followed. If he can get his defense up to par with Ruiz then we have something special. He also hasnt pulled anything which means he’s seeing the ball a little late but that will improve.

to more effectively answer your question Phan TN … we’re losing this game b/c of rollins’ .111 and victorino’s .219 clips. those guys get on base and we’re good. they dont and a team that couldn’t buy a win has a chance to beat you.

The offense: Rollins and Vic, they are hurting. The team is lucky to be .500. The top 2 in your lineup are hitting .100 and .200. That is awful, and that is what is wrong with the team: 2 runs against a pitcher with an ERA of 9?

Rollins and Vic probably should not have gone to the World Baseball Classic. That woeful experience left them out of Spring Training, and now unprepared for the season. When will these guys learn ??

If we ponied up a million more we could have had Beimel instead of Taschner.

Im not going to blame that on the WBC thats garbage.
Joe Blanton pitched well tonight, alarm can be put away for him. He had a quality start and only made one big mistake. Jack Tascher is really bad out there tonight. He came back to earth, and harshly too.

What. The. Hell? This is not good. Why Taschner was kept in that long is way beyond me. Start the bus. This one’s over.

have to wonder if taschner will get released. he couldnt even get lefties out tonight.
meanwhile, lou marson had a great debut tonight.

Tascher stinks we could have sign Beimel who is much better and use the money saved from romano suspension to pay him.

There was no reason to leave Taschner in there. There were 4 straight righties to start the bottom of the 8th. Righties kill him. Tom McCarthy said they tried to ride him because they had some lefties coming up.
I’m glad to see other people posted the same thing and I’m not going crazy. Would that have happened last year when Jimy Williams was the bench coach??
