Rich Dubee says Cole Hamels is ready to go for his first start of the year Friday in Denver.
“He’s a guy that likes a third deck and the big lights,” Dubee said. “He proved that during his first couple of the past few years and the playoff run that he had. Physically, I think he’s fine. We had that MRI and all the tests done, and there’s nothing structurally [wrong].”
If anything, Hamels was overused, causing some wear on his elbow. He last pitched in a game Saturday against the Rays, who rocked him in the first inning before he settled down.

First off may I say God Bless Nick Avenhart and his family, the Angels family, and the baseball world is in mourning today. He pitched a good game yesterday, and this was the thanx he gets?Scumbag ran a red light and tried to run away too but was caught. We all should embrace life whether you are 22,39 or 89 because you don’t know when your whole world is over.

Speaking of getting rocked… here’s Oliver Perez’ line against the Reds today: 4.1 IP / 5H / 8 ER / 5 BB / 7 K / 1 HR / 16.62 ERA

Typical Ollie Perez line: a few really good innings, a ton of strikeouts and then the implosion begins; he walks one or two guys and then he completely loses confidence and the next thing you know, there are 5-8 runs on the board. Patience…
Chris Carpenter pitched 7 innings of 1 hit baseball today (7 k’s)…

The Adenhart story is an absolute tragedy, there is no other way to put it…. I loved to see Ollie get rocked today, anyway I am kind of nervous about Cole this year so hopefully tomorrow he can prove me wrong and have another incredible season….

I don’t know what kind of expectations the fans here have for Hamels when he is scheduled to start tomorrow. Personally, I don’t expect a masterful performance considering the layoff and only two brief starts in ST. One could look at it as an extended ST start. I’ll be satisfied if he can pitch 5 innings and keep the runs to a minimum and allowing the Phillies to stay in the game.

I’m glad its a day game, maybe it will be a little bit warmer. I dont like him throwing in that thin cold air.

Kev, I use a PDA when typing in here most of the time.I accidentally hit V instead of the D…however you got my point. Now with Oliver Hardy,I wonder if during the off-season he was eating jello pudding pops and counting his millions with Scott Boras and after he was signed, did he get back to work?If he’s this bad next Wednesday vs the Padres,he’ll be destroyed by the CitiField crowd. Now I know how youse guys felt about Adam Eaton.

Ollie Perez could be good… Cy Young good… but his biggest enemy is himself. He’s still young but he needs to figure out how to calm himself down when he starts losing control. I hope, for the Phillies sake, that he doesn’t. Right now, if they are patient enough, he always seems to crumble.

I think that Ollie has more raw talent. Myers’ fastball is not effective by itself… Myers has better control but has a tendency to throw flat out meatballs. Ollie won’t give up as many HR but when he gets wild, he gets REALLY wild.

My problem with Oliver Hardy is,when its go time and he has to face teams that are good,he comes up big…when he’s playing a team like the Nats,Astros,Reds, its like Gallagher is waiting at the plate with the “Sledge-o-Matic” and Ollie throws watermelons.Sure he has raw talent, but when is it going to show?

I think the Phils and Mets are gonna miss not having Derek Lowe in their rotations this year. But I think next year the Braves are really gonna regret giving him that contract…

Havoc- I think Lowe will be very good this yr and next, avg the 3rd yr but it’s really the last yr that would worry me. But if they won a WS would they care? Did we care about Jenkins?
I am concerned with Hamels only pitching very limited innings this spring and not getting his velocity up. However, all we keep hearing is inflammation and soreness and nothing while pitchin galways after pitching. So I don’t think it’s a huge injury problem, I am just worried he is not ready.
I don’t think we can survive another regular season where Moyer leads the team in wins.
