I understand Happ making the roster, but i also see it as a mistake, if they try to use him as a left handed clay condrey it’s going to be a big mistake, because his bullpen ERA was horrible. If he comes in in the early innings if Moyer continues to get shelled he could be better i just don’t know how he makes the roster since he’s not good at getting ready like a reliever would.

Joe Blanton vs Scott Kazmir. The 25 roster isn’t fully set because phils might be cooking up somewhere else for a righty batter off the bench. From Todd Zolecki
“The Phillies have announced that left-handers J.A. Happ and Jack Taschner have made the bullpen. The 25th man has not been announced. It appears Miguel Cairo would be that guy, but perhaps the Phillies have something cooking. A team source said earlier today they would move on and look elsewhere for help once they got word Gary Sheffield was going to New York. There had been some thought the Phillies might keep Happ in his starter’s role in Triple-A Lehigh Valley, but I think they feel he pitched well enough last season and this spring to earn a big-league job. They also said earlier this week they feel he can keep his arm stretched out enough that he could start at a moment’s notice. Taschner was a lock all along. He was a lock because they acquired him recently in a trade with the Giants and because he will be paid $830,000 (i.e. they didn’t acquire him to have him pitch in the Minor Leagues … not at that salary).”

is Bruntlett essentially our 4th of?…I would have made Mayberry the 4th atleast he can play all 3 pos. I thought he would get enough abs as 4th.

Gary Majewski who pitched well for the phils in spt, will go to triple a leigh valley after the 2 on deck series games vs the rays. Blanton starts tonight, Cole Hamels starts tomorrow afternoon and the real thing Brett Myers opens the season sunday night. I’m really, really sure you will see Majewski and Mike Koplove two relief guys called up by the phils along the year.

There’s honestly no need for 3 lefties in the pen, you don’t need a lhp long reliever on top of 2 lefties that you have for matchup purposes. We’re the only left handed heavy lineup in the division the point of 3 lefties in the pen or rotation wouldn’t make sense.

Personally, I hope we don’t see the following guys at all this year: Majewski, Koplove, Carrasco and Kendrick. That would imply someone has “blown up.” And I don’t want to see that happen.
That said, I’m pretty stoked about the depth. Think about the guys who made appearances for the Phils at one point or another last year:
Andy Tracy, Brad Harman, TJ Bohn, Mike Cervenak, Greg Golson…
Les Walrond, RJ Swindle, Andrew Carpenter…
I’m much more confident having Koplove, Majewski and Carrasco waiting in the wings and Mayberry, Ozuna, Donald, Ellison in AAA waiting for those random two-week call-ups.

Happ and Tasch makes 24, or am I missing someone? Have they officially announced Cairo??

Yes. They already said Ozuna and Ellison weren’t making the roster, leaving Cairo as the 25th man. Currently they might grab a righty bat, which would take Cairo out.

Im going to the game tomorrow with Hamels pitching, whats the deal with the lineup? Are the regulars going to start? For some reason i dont think they will since the real deal is Sunday night…

I’m not sure I understand why Majewski and Koplove didnt make the 25 man roster. Spring numbers dont mean anything I guess. Both guys pitched their way onto the roster, yet Taschner sucks and he makes it, again, if it is a veteran with ahigh era so be it, but Taschner? It wont be long before he’s gone, but I hope he doesnt cost us too many games in the process.
Did Giles get sent to AAA?
