We hope you have noticed the HK patch to the left.  Clicking on it (or here) will take you to a section where we have collected photos, audio clips, and memories of Harry Kalas. It will remain a permanent tribute to the great man, so please if you come across anything you would like to share, send us an email.  We will be adding videos and additional items in the coming days and weeks.

The patch will remain in its position for the remainder of the season and Harry will hold the Ashburn Award until May 13th, 30 days after his passing.

Before the rain delay ended last night.. I was listening to 1210am and guy called in (sounded like an older gentleman) and said that he probably cried more in the past week, over Harry’s death, than he ever has in his life..

Combine that with the awful Harry Kalas Tattoo that is posted on youtube and on the700level.com, and people really worry me

I was upset to hear that Harry died.. but I didn’t cry over it, and if you ever get a tattoo of somebody.. make sure the guy doing it can make it look life-like, not like a skeleton.

    Thanks

well Don, you’re more a man then me, coz i balled like a baby. Harry’s passing hit me harder then any friend, family member, or pet’s death.

i do agree though, that tattoo was a little scary looking.

I said to my friends that it’s tough because I’ve definitely spent more hours of my life listening to Harry Kalas then I have to any other single form of entertainment..

I’m sure if I would have been at the ceremonies at CBP or something I would have cried a little, but I never met him, so its not something I would cry over..

I dont mean that in a bad way, people grieve in their own ways and that’s fine.. I just find it hard to believe that a grown man cried more over Harry Kalas’ death than he ever has about anything thing else in his life.. its just odd to me

I dunno.. I just didn’t. I got the chills watching all the tribute videos and him singing High Hopes and stuff.. and im sure that if I was at the game on Friday, or the ceremony on Saturday I would have shed a tear or two..

I am in my fifty’s and me and my wife cried like a baby, when they touched that casket and played bridge over troubled water. And my wife hates sports .didn’t really know much about harry, but it got to her the tribute and when that funeral car with harry’s body and the music knowing that was the end of him it was too sad not to show emotion

Maybe it’s the part where he said “more than anything in his whole life” that you take issue with. I’m not ashamed to say I also cried like a baby during the service. And when they re-aired it during the rain out the other night, my husband watched and he cried too. It was actually my grandmother who got me into baseball and the Phillies from a very young age and after my grandfather passed, it was always Harry’s voice I heard in her house the many hours I spent there. He was like an adopted grandpop to me, strange as that may sound. A week later I’m still tearing up about it if I see or read anything about him or when I listen to audio clips. We could have had him for 25 more years and it still wouldn’t have been long enough for me.

Do Wheels and T-Mac get the Steve Jeltz award for the next month? Their coverage is horrendous! Franzkie and LA should be on TV. They are much more entertaining and passionate.

I think everyone takes certain deaths certain ways. I reacted harder to Harry’s death than any death I’ve ever had to sustain. It’s hard to explain, but that’s how it is.
