How come the offense packed it in after 3 2/3 innings? I guess Madson was due to get pounded. And what’s with Hamels? I thought that his discomfort was over?

I was at that game, and in the 4th and 5th innings Hamels kept walking off the mound and just did not look right. I agree, there is something wrong. On the days the pitching is decent, the offense stinks and the days when the offense it good the pitching is not. That being said, I don’t think everyone on the pitching staff is awful; the starters are the ones giving up the runs. The relievers (exception last night) are not really giving anything too bad. Still, it is April, and we have time to get it together.

It was good to start Hamels. He is NOT injured and needs to get MLB action to keep improving. Re Madson and Lidge, I’m not concerned for now. They haven’t played in a while.(I think Madson should’ve pitched in the 8th when we were down 4-2 against the Nats.) These off days are killing us and messing with our pitchers. I’m more concerned with our starting pitching in general, but I wish there would be some way to factor out the off days from the equation.

Hamels just has to wife and ask her what he should do ….remember 2007…but its a young long season….at least he brought his era. down to about 14.00 but all in all the league has his number as well as Jamie Moyers…can’t really understand why they re-signed him.

There is no reason in the world to put Hamels on the DL, that won’t solve anything. He isn’t perfect yet, but there was much improvement over his last start. It was a lousy game, definately. Is there a plausible reason to blow a 7-1 lead? No, but we’ve been on the other side of that coin more often than this side. It sucks, but today is a new day. Some days you win, some days you lose, some days it rains. The Fightins will be fine.

I think it was a mistake to start Hamels who should have been skipped a start to decide whether he was healthy or needed a retroactive DL stint but the Phils are getting nothing out of our starting pitching right now. No wonder the bullpens bleeding when the entire staffed looks baffled.

The Nats are Padres are always going to win games, expecting sweeps is foolhardy but those aren’t the games to let get away facing inexperienced players.

Don’t worry bout the Phils just yet. This page is full of over-reactors…Hamels is fine. He needs to get loosened up a bit more. I expect to see him back to his 92-93MPH fastball tomorrow, which will further help his changeup. Madson, honestly, was due for this performance. Guy hadn’t pitched since Monday, (same with Lidge) so it’s possible them had some rust. Also, you can’t expect Madson to hold every game he’s in. Guy was filthy last year but last year is last year. What worries me most right now is Rollins really struggling and Werth just being atrocious at the plate. How’s Ibanez looking in Phillies red though, eh?

Also, don’t worry about being 4.5 games back already. You really think the Marlins are going to finish 161-1? Mets and Braves are both 5-5, with the Phils .5 game behind them. Think those fans are freaking out?

I’m glad we won. (Hell, we lost 99 last year, so I’m G-L-A-D we won!)
Best to the Phillies. You have a great team. Hang in there, you’ll be fine. Very sad to spoil your Kalas tribute. He was a great man and a true legend. We’re sorry for the loss of his voice, but also the loss of the man of character that he was. Pure class. He is missed in San Diego, too.

You want the truth, you can’t handle the truth!

Truth- 2008 is over, and it was great, but it’s time to take care of business in 2009.

Truth- Ryan Madson is not Mariano Rivera (Scott Boras is a doucheosaurus).

Truth- Striking out 4 times in a game is shameful (yes, you Howard!).

Truth- Phils are 4.5 games back in the NL East.

Truth- our leadoff hitter’s OPS is .313, that would only be good if that were his batting average.

Truth- Teams are batting .293 off of our staff with a .919 OPS.

Truth- April is by far the easiest month on the schedule versus opponents, yet the Phillies record is a customary losing April 4-5, which is unacceptable.
