Scott Lauber reports the Phillies have placed catcher Carlos Ruiz on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique. Lou Marson has been officially added to the 25-man roster and is with the team for tonight’s game.

Hopefully it will only be 15 days. I really do believe Chooch is going to have a break out season this year. Dropping his hands at the set position has reduced his propencity to pound balls into the ground.
On the other hand, I like giving Chris Coste & Lou Marson a chance to prove themselves.
Go Phillies!!!

I think if Marson gets a chance and shines, by the All-Star break Coste will either be on another team, in AAA, or Ruiz gets traded. I can’t see the Phils using Ruiz as a backup – I think they could get more value out of him in a trade than Coste obviously because of his defense and work with the staff.

Why would you trade ruiz he is cheap and a good defensive catcher. Even if Marston is a star, you keep ruiz.

Just thinking about the DL and the Hamels situation, maybe the Phils take thing cautiously and skip Cole a start to decide whether to slot him back in with a choice match-up or put him on the DL retroactively to give him a few more days to recoup his strength.

^also to previous comments… Trade Ruiz, if someone else accends to the everyday spot then you have debatably the best back-up receiver in the majors.
