Posts, Spring Recap

Jayson Werth notched his sixth Grapefruit League home run, but the Phillies lost to the Yankees 8-5.

Prospect Kyle Drabek allowed five runs (four earned) in 2.1 innings. JA Happ followed him and had one of his worst starts in recent memory, pitching 2.2 innings and giving up three runs on four hits. Brad Lidge, Mike Koplove and Scott Eyre each pitched a scoreless inning.

Jimmy Rollins had a good game, going 2-for-3 to raise his Grapefruit League average to .355. Coupled with his performance in the World Baseball Classic, Rollins is enjoying a fine spring.

Totally unrelated to this topic, but it should be worth noting that Kris Benson has officially been named to the Texas Rangers starting rotation. Personally, glad to see him finally get where he was trying to get last year.

Kris Benson in the starting rotation for Texas?! Wow! Either he has found his fastball in time or Texas must be re–al–ly desperate for pitching. Well, he’ll be joining ex-phils, Padilla and Millwood in rotation.

Doesn’t Texas have some of the best pitching prospects in baseball?

Texas has some top tier pitching prospects… but they’re not ready… they also have a guy by the name of Nolan Ryan leading the team. With that offense, if Ryan can impart any wisdom on those young pitchers, Texas will be a force. But right now, Millwood is their opening day starter, followed by Padilla, Benson and a couple of 23-25 year olds.

Sorry to hear Drabek got hit around… but this team is hitting on all cylinders right now.
