Former Phillies manager Danny Ozark has died at age 85.
Considered one of the greatest managers in Phillies history, Ozark took the helm in 1973, inheriting young players and molding them into stars. With Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Greg Luzinski, Bob Boone and others, Ozark created a team that would own the National League East in the late 1970s.
He won three consecutive division titles, though losing each year in the National League Championship Series. He finished with a record of 594-510 as Phils skipper.
Ozark was born Nov. 24, 1923, and played as a minor league first baseman in the Dodgers system before turning to coaching. He died at his home in Vero Beach, Fla.

wow, very sad news. 2 losses in less than a month, though ozark hardly had the same connection with the team and city that harry did.
you should give him more credit tim. he gave us 3 straight division titles but u fail to mention that his teams won 202 games in 2 seasons, including 2 straight back to back 101 win seasons, something very few teams have ever done before. hes easily top 5 manager in phillies history.

The 1977 Phillies may have been the best team in franchise history, although they failed to reach the World Series but that’s another story…
Ozark was one of the great managers in franchise history and he helped pave the way for the 1980 World Series championship.
Say hello t o Harry for us Danny.

No need to be snide, or sorry. Just saying you usually give everyone their due. As one of the greatest managers in the history of the franchise, I just think he deserves a little more than a 1 sentence description.
But its not my blog

@Kevin; I agree with you on the 1977 Phils. The removal of Ozark and the addition of Rose got the Phils over the hump but that was a strong team for quite a few years.

Im surprised I thought the Phillies were really good. but after last night I dont think so anymore. The mets just look better. the mets have better team chemisty.I even think the Marlins and Braves are better than the Phlis. I wont be surprised at the end of the year that the mets win this easily.

I will be attending the funeral this afternoon. His daughter is a friend of mine. I think he was a great man-let’s not forget he was also a war hero. My heart goes out to his family.
