Gameday 2009, Posts
Los Angeles Dodgers (23-12) at Philadelphia Phillies (16-15)
Chad Billingsley (5-1, 2.45 ERA) vs. Cole Hamels (1-2, 6.17 ERA)
Time: 1:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
Weather: Windy, 69
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Jamie Moyer got waxed by the Dodgers Wednesday night. Here’s hoping Cole Hamels can right the ship. The ace takes on the Dodgers for the first time since game five of the National League Championship Series, recreating that game against that night’s opposing mound-mate.
Hamels is coming off his best start of the season, a 6 IP, 2 ER outing against Atlanta that confirmed his status as club ace. In regular season starts he has a 2.57 ERA against the Dodgers, striking out 12 while walking two.
The Phils will face a Chad Billingsley who they’ve owned in the past — a 4.00 ERA in three career starts. The Phils also hit him very well in the postseason (games two and five, NLCS). Shame Brett Myers isn’t pitching against him. Maybe he can play shortstop?
Here’s an interesting stat: In six May losses, the Phillies have averaged just 2.16 runs per game. In five May wins, they’ve averaged 7.4 runs per game.
Your gameday beer: Purely because Cole Hamels is the best pitcher in baseball with an ERA in the sixes, I’m recommending Sixpoint Sweet Action from the Sixpoint Brewery in New York. This blonde ale is nice on a warmer day such as this, so drink with care, and eat a club sandwich with this. Maybe tuna.
Go Phillies!

Geoff, all I would like to say to you is, how bout CARLOS RUIZ YOU IDIOT!!
what did I tell you last night, that Carlos ISSSS the best man for the job, and clearly showed it today
He’s not good offensively Geooooffff huh? He’s gotten on base in 8 straight appearances, and tied up this ball game and gave this lifeless offense a chance to win. Seriously Geoff, I think it’s time to shut your mouth, and mention positive things about this team.
TAKE A MONTH OFF THIS BLOG AND STOP MENTIONING YOUR COMPLETELY ILLOGICAL MANEUVERS AS A “MANAGER.”
Nobody, and I mean, nobody is happy with this team now, but your ranting, and negativity about a single fallacy in someone’s game is really annoying, and your solutions to each problem reflect your pessimism and doubt in this team.

Couple of things. Just read that zarguski is only in the mid 80′s since his surgery. Second no one to my knowledge has mention if charlie misses the advice of Jimmy Williams?

Geoff, shut up. Nobody on this blog respects and of your posts because everybody knows how farfetch’d and absurd they are.
Are you also forgetting Carlos missed the first 2-3 weeks of the season, so how can you hold him accountable for his first 2 RBI’s when he hasn’t even had ample time to rack them up. SECONDLY, like was mentioned before and is statistically true in the catcher position, offensive production usually isn’t present. With the exception of Braun, McCann and maybe one other player, the catcher position is defensive.
Your posts are pathetic and are a summary of why Philly fans have such a dirty rep, because all you do is rant, and rant, and rant on how awful certain players are because they aren’t perfect.
Respect Ruiz for who he is, because I and nobody who posts daily on this blog respects you.

Matt. I Don’t buy your argument about ruiz , 6 catchers right now are batting over 275 in the national league. that 50% so you are making statements that are not true. Second ruiz starts because the team is really good offensely,[ but not right now]. I heard Lidge talk about how he can throw his slider at any time and feel confident that ruiz will not let it get pass him. But if you follow baseball good defense catchers are a dime a dozen. the hard ones to find are the one’s who hit. I have no problem with ruiz with this team, because of the surrending talent. Ruiz isn’t the problem they aren’t winning. but his lack of offense does huDrt them sometimes. That is why the phillies have drafted so many catchers, D’naud, Valle, Marson, Naughton, to name a few.
