Washington Nationals (13-35) at Philadelphia Phillies (27-20)
John Lannan (2-4, 4.11 ERA) vs. Jamie Moyer (3-5, 7.42 ERA)
Time: 1:35 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
Weather: Mostly sunny, 76
TV: MyPhl 17
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Thanks to Ryan Howard’s mammoth home runs, the Phillies will win a home series. The big man led the way in a 9-6 win over the Nationals. The Phillies are now 9-2 against the Nationals this season.
Jamie Moyer still seeks win No. 250, and he’ll try to do it against a team he faced early this season and had some success against. He beat Washington April 13, going six innings and giving up four runs. If he repeats that outing and the offense can do what it’s done the last two nights, Moyer should get that elusive victory.
And the offense has seen John Lannan plenty of times; in two outings this season, the Phillies have hit him (10. 2 IP, 15 H), but they weren’t getting them all home (6 ER). Maybe Chase Utley can help that out — he’s 3-for-5 with two homers against Lannan this season.
The bullpen has done a great job lately, holding the last two very tense contests against Washington. Part of that is not letting the longball beat them — they have only allowed one home run in the last 52.2 innings (Alex Rodriguez).
The Phillies are 16-11 for May as we reach its final day.
Your gameday beer: Jamie Moyer, born in 1809, used to tend to sheep and dogs on his parents’ prairie house in eastern West Virginia. In his honor, drink a beer that signifies his birth year: 1809, from Brauerei Weihenstephan. This German “Berlin Style” Weissbeer is half pilsner and half wheat. It’s the perfect light and refreshing summer beer. Have a burger and an 1809.
Go Phillies!

Putz has not been as solid as the numbers indicate. K-Rod yes, but he becomes less so as the season moves on. It will be interesting if Wagner comes back.

Really nice performance by Jamie today. He deserves this #250.

Let’s hope the defense and offense allow him to get #250. That hopefully should get him into the HoF and retire #50 one day…

Well, the Mets just scored 2 more, so it’s 3-0 now, that one is pretty much over.

Griffin, I agree, but the Fish do surprise you once in a while, so we can only hope…

True, and after the Mets scored their two runs, it was still 1st and 3rd no one out, but they didn’t score any more. So it’s 3-0 heading to the 8th, Putz coming in.

Pitch #106 was a nasty one from Lannan.

As I said, Putz is not as solid as the numbers indicate. He pulls a lot of load ‘em up, get ‘em out stuff. he already has complained he wants to close somewhere, so I am thinking his morale is not 100%. He DOES work though, so he gets the job done in the end. It is just one of those things. We can also hope for some great Mets defense LOL. Again, I want to get a lead on them, it is tough always watching both games to make sure we an stay in first!

If the Nats were smart, they would build around Lannan, Zimmerman and Johnson. They would be scary if they actually got their pitching down!

M.P. AKA Phillies Phan SC #54, it looks like you’re spot on about Putz. He’s given up 1 run already and there are runners on 1st and 2nd with one out and they are replacing Putz with Parnell.

3-2 now in the Mets game, fish have runners at the corners with one out.

Against the same lineup. Which one looks more like your ace?
So Hamels had a bad game and everyone says he had an off day give him a break. When Moyer has an off day it’s we need to take him outback and get rid of him, he stinks, he is washed up, he needs to retire.
All you Moyer haters look at today’s game and his last two starts and its obvious that he still has it. So get off his case.

Griffin looking at Gameday it looks like Hermida flew out to the track with two outs. Brutal.
So are we gonna actually score some insurance runs tonight? I seriously do not want to go through another close game. Plus we need to give Madson and Lidge a little bit of a rest.

The difference is that Hamels is a superstar. Moyer has never reach his level. Look what Hamels did the in the post season you dip.

@Big Dipper: Yeah, Moyer has had some rough games, but he’s had some poor run support and some poor relief pitching.

And Moyer has had some HORRIBLE CONSECUTIVE starts this year… Hamels only had a couple at the beginning of the season… and we ALSO gave him a hard time…

We’re gonna need a couple more runs to make sure Jamie gets his 250th.

It’s amazing, the offense always seems primed for a gun fight but when the starting pitchings good then some of the key components just disappear… I’ve never understood this teams inability to play a little small-ball when necessary, seems the more pressure to play fundemental baseball the more bad outs and mistakes.

OK, let’s wrap this one up quick and put Jamie’s 250 in the books…

KRod has certainly been dominating….so the Mets did do one thing we apparently cannot. Take 2 out of 3 from the Marlins at home.
I can’t believe we are throwing Madson again. I would rather save him and hope someone else can get the Nats out. I just have nightmares of him getting hurt because he is overworked.

We should bring in Ruiz to catch for Lidge. Something about Coste when Lidge is in there isn’t right. Something is off in that battery.
