Gameday 2009, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (19-16) at Washington Nationals (11-24)
Chan Ho Park (1-1, 6.00 ERA) vs. Jordan Zimmermann (2-1, 5.90 ERA)
Time: 1:35 p.m. at Nationals Park, Washington, D.C.
Weather: Cloudy, 61
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
We did scream “Rauuuuuul!” enough last night. Today, the Phillies hope they scream past the Nationals and earn a four-game road sweep.
Chan Ho Park — coming off some good starts — gets the ball today. The aggressive Park will face the Nationals for the first time this season.
Meanwhile Jordan Zimmermann faces the Phils for the first time in his career. The rookie has had a tough May, notching an ERA of over 8.00 in three starts against Saint Louis, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Your gameday beer: Here’s Magic Hat’s Lucky Kat, an American pale that’s pretty basic by design. Light feel but bitter at the end, it’s perfect with an Italian hoagie on this rainy Sunday.
Go Phillies!

Yes lets keep it going! Btw if anyone hasn’t heard the story about Tavares signing with the Nats this offseason you have to hear it. Try googling him or something.

If there was ever a time for Ruiz of Feliz to hit a homer, now would be it. :)

The Nationals hit so well, and field so poorly. I’ve got to think they could fix that by hiring the right coach.

I don’t think this is the right spot for Eyre. Hopefully I don’t know what I’m talking about.

good inning. Still got Ibanez, Howard and Werth next inning. Speaking of someone earning a right to have an off day Ibanez. He was hitting like .576 in Nats park before today, with at least 1 hit every game. Hopefully he continues that streak, but the guy has been a beat, he earned the right to only get a walk.

Just a side note here but if we hold this lead then 3 of our wins in this series will be from J.A. Happ, Andrew Carpenter, and Sergio Escalona. That would be something.

Kennedy the reason we pulled Stairs in favor of Bruntlett was for match ups. Granted Stairs is now done for the game but originally the Nationals brought in a righty so Charlie went with a lefty in Stairs, then the Nats pulled the righty in favor a lefty and so Charlie in kind pulled Stairs for a righty in Bruntlett. Baseball is very much a chess match some times. Fortunately it worked out this time.
Not sure why Eyre is in there when its normally Madson’s spot in the 8th. Either Madson is unavailable or Eyre just does well against the three guys due up.

I wonder if they’re saving Madson for the 9th inning?

Brian…they mentioned yesterday that Ibanez played every game last season, too. Apparently he doesn’t sit down very often. Generally Charlie sits everyone at some point but if he keeps swinging than maybe not.

I just realized you meant off-day as in bad day at the plate, not day off. Hopefully you enjoyed the tangent though.

3 up 3 down. Very nice! Also thanks for bringing up that Carpenter got the win yesterday. That was a debate when I signed off yesterday. Saw it on ESPN late last night.

Good stat Miles…says something about the Phillies future…not that I was overly impressed with Carpenter but honestly, if a guy making his first career start doesn’t get rocked, I consider it a positive. I can’t imagine the nerves he had last night.
When did Dunn learn how to play defense?

Ibanez is a freak of nature. He may be getting older, for an outfielder, but with his fitness routines and using Hyperbolic chambers and stuff like that. WOW. He can hit, and makes some real nice plays. True he gives up some errors, but so far if he gives up a run, he comes back the same game, and scores them right back (knock on wood I hope I didnt jinx him)
