Philadelphia Phillies (23-18) at New York Yankees (25-18)
Cole Hamels (2-2, 4.95 ERA) vs. CC Sabathia (4-3, 3.45 ERA)
Time: 1:05 p.m. at Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
Weather: Possible thunderstorms, 76
TV: MyPhl 17
Twitter: Phillies Nation
For 17 innings, the Phillies have played the Yankees pretty darn well. Game one was about Brett Myers and the longball. Game two was about contributions from young players. Then Brad Lidge threw some bad pitches.
But today is a new day, and Cole Hamels faces CC Sabathia in the rubber match to end all rubber matches. Yankee Stadium is ready. The Phillies are ready. Phillies Nation is there.
Remember last time Sabathia faced the Phillies? We sure do.
Your gameday beer: In the spirit of the Yankees’ biggest rivals, here’s Harpoon Celtic Ale from the Harpoon Brewery. And in the spirit of the Irish, this beer is a dry but complex drink — hints of toffee and various spices make this a good catch. And if you’re gonna eat Irish with it, go with bangers and mash. It’s St. Paddy’s Day … in May!
Go Phillies!

And starting at DH for the Phillies…Brett Myers.

No Utley….what the hell. He had two more knocks yesterday against a lefty. He still must not be 100% from getting hit by that pitch or something because there is no way you play Bruntlett in this game over him. Charlie is even batting Bruntlett AHEAD of Chooch who had 3 hits on Friday (although it’s good to see that Carlos appears to be OK after that swing on Friday).

They should start Myers at DH and bat him lead off to get in Sabathia’s head.
I guess that kind of move only happens in law school soft ball leagues.

I’m looking forward to this game and a potential pitching duel between two outstanding “aces”, Hamels and Sabathia. It will be interesting to see their game plan approach in the newest bandbox. Obviously, keeping the pitches DOWN and spoting it for strikes is a must. That and getting ahead for pitcher’s count and pitching to the hitter’s weakness.
Oh, I’m fairly certain that the newest fan favorite, John Mayberry Jr will be in the lineup as a righthanded bat facing a lefty (Sabathia). I hope Werth has his “A” game today and has made adjustment in playing LF. Otherwise, he may be looking over his shoulder at the newest addition in RF. ;-)

Someone mentioned this on yesterday’s gameday thread after the game but I was really frustrated with this thought last night as well. Isn’t it infuriating to have to watch someone like A-Roid, an admitted steroid user, get big hits against your team while a crucial part of your bullpen is suspended for a mix-up over a supplement? Even if Romero was purposely cheating (a possibility), he certainly did nothing that was any more wrong that what A-Roid did. A-Roid is bashing home runs and Romero is in the minors…..make sense?

We gotta forget the steroids thing with A-rod. He’s not getting kicked out of the game, no other steroid user is either, so its one of those things where ya gotta suck it up and move on. What frustrates me most about yesterday is Lidge. Lidge needs to get his fastball location right or he’s not going to be able to be effective.
I completely agree with putting Myers in as the DH. Its a no brainer Charlie, what’re you doing! I also don’t like that Bruntlett is in the lineup again. He’s seen way too much time at second. I wanna know what’s up with Chase. Not that I don’t like Bruntlett, but Utley needs to be back on track.

It makes no sense that A-rod has not served a suspension for the NUMEROUS years of steroid use. I don’t care if there were no rules put it place back in 2003, when the steroid use took place, cheating is cheating and a suspension of 50 games should be enforced. It’s a shame that Bud Selig is more concerned with fan attendance rather than doing the right thing. With that said… Let’s jump on Sabathia early!!!!

Evan I’m not blaming the loss on A-Roid* using steroids. I’m just saying that its tough for me to understand why Romero’s actions warrant a suspension but since A-Roid* used a couple years back, he can just go out and play, ya know? I guess the frustration just hit home yesterday with the way the game played out.

If he hits Raul, even with a breaking ball, Cole better be throwing it near A-Roid* and his oversized coconut.

YES getta outta here you b*tch. Does anyone notice that he has an ongoing conversation with the home plate ump during his at bats? He was turning around after every pitch during the Lidge at bat yesterday to inform the ump whether he thought the pitch was a ball or strike.

I just refuse to believe that Bruntlett as righty has a better chance to get a hit then Utley as a lefty. He really just doesn’t look good up there.

pretty amazing stat that cc hasnt given up an extra base hit to a lefty in 26 or 27 starts. i checked and he didnt give up one in the playoffs either, but that was ok, LOL

I don’t think diving for that ball is a bad play, personally.

Changed my name slightly… Easier for me to pick out who is addressing me… I muted this game as I have to listen to the Yakees announcers, but I see Victorino continued some sucess against CC

i think if he doesnt dive for the ball its first and second 2 out as chooch probably doesnt go first to third. the play was compounded by cabrera not backing him up.

Hamels is throwing a lot of high fast balls today for some reason. He’s gotta keep that down.

They asked who is the best starting left in MLB?
1. Cole Hamels
2. Cliff Lee
3. CC Sabathia
4. John Santana
Text answer to 58772 for those who want LOL. I do not care who does, it was just interesting they included Cole hamels

Miles, that is because T-Mac lets him talk. LOL HK knew how to keep him tamed. I would still rather be hearing about Wheels and his first tricycle though than watching with no sound.
