Gameday 2009, Posts
Los Angeles Dodgers (22-11) at Philadelphia Phillies (15-14)
Clayton Kershaw (1-2, 4.91 ERA) vs. Chan Ho Park (0-1, 6.67 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
Weather: Mostly sunny, 65
TV: MyPhl 17
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Bring on them Dodgers! It’s a rematch of the National League Championship Series, as the Los Angeles nine head into Philadelphia to take on the Phils.
This version of the Dodgers is a slight different, thanks to the 50-game suspension of Manny Ramirez for breaking Major League Baseball’s drug policy. Instead, they’ll have Juan Pierre in the outfield, and already he’s tearing the cover off the ball as a starter. He’s hitting .426 with three steals and nine runs scored. Yes, with about a third of the at bats, Juan Pierre is completely outplaying Jimmy Rollins.
The Dodgers will pitch Clayton Kershaw, who threw just two innings against the Phillies in last season’s LCS. The Phils will counter with Chan Ho Park, who has barely threw against the current Dodgers. Of course, he spent the beginning of his American career with Los Angeles.
By the way, those records are correct: Only early in a season will you find a team opposing another that’s seven ahead in the win column but three ahead in the loss column. Odd.
Your gamenight beer: It’s been a long trail so far for the Phillies. You know where I’m going with this: Long Trail Ale. This Vermont ale is easy to find here in the Northeast. It’s a simple ale, nothing too distinguishable about it. It’s light but has a weirdly bold taste. A tad bitter, but mainly drinkable for a few. I could eat some ravioli with this.
Go Phillies!

Stealing home: Unnecessary (because of the bases loaded walk) but still very cool.

I didn’t see the play, was it a true steal of home, or was the ball in the dirt?

Matt – he had a walking lead and timed it just as the catcher threw the ball back to the mound.
Great to see them playing with energy tonight. Let’s finish strong. Let’s go Fightin’ Phils!!
I’ll be at the game tomorrow night in the bleachers; can’t wait!

when is it not a true steal of home, what are you going to have, defensive indifference, if it is a passed ball or wild pitch it is an error not a stolen base

or since it is a save situation, bring Lidge in and see if he can finnish this off, and not just go out and throw pitches with a 5 run lead

Yes, it could be a wetland, rivera, situation, where the set up guy becomes better then the closer he set up for, how old was Wetland anyway when the Yankees let him go

Man I love Jayson Werth. He’s got a cannon of an arm, can hit for power, and is fantastic on the basepaths. I swear he never gets caught stealing.

it might be time to put boras’s claim about madson being the next mariano rivera to the test. i’m not sure if lidge can really hold onto this closer job anymore.

Jeez, you guys are hammering Lidge.
He’s not what he was last year, but granted he had quite a few saves similar to the one tonight.
Let the man do his thing and stop hounding him, he’ll be fine

He did his job tonight, Like I said last week, I don’t remember too many 1 2 3 innings from him last year either, but when he bares down he is still up there with the best of them
