Gameday 2009, Posts
Florida Marlins (21-26) at Philadelphia Phillies (25-19)
Burke Badenhop (2-2, 5.75 ERA) vs. Brett Myers (4-2, 4.34 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
Weather: Partly cloudy, 73
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Brett Myers can deliver a series win against the Marlins, as the Phils and Fish tangle for the sixth time in 2009. Florida will counter with Burke Badenhop, making his first start of 2009.The sinkerballer pitched 2.1 scoreless innings against the Phillies earlier in the season, but for his career has given up a Ryan Howard home run. Because Badenhop isn’t ready to make a full start, Hayden Penn will be ready for long relief. It’s the kind of night when the Phils should be wise to take some pitches.
Myers allowed three runs in six innings against the Marlins earlier in the season. He walked six in that game; since, Myers has been much more effective, capping with a strong start Friday night against the Yankees.
In the last rotation turn, the Phils’ rotation ERA dropped from 6.31 to 5.86. Myers is 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA in his last three starts.
Your gamenight beer: Creemore Springs Premium Lager is one of the better lagers you’ll ever taste. Loaded with malt flavor, it’s crisp and golden, easy to drink and intelligently refreshing. This American-style lager is, in fact, Canadian: further proof those up north make some damn good beer. Pair this lager with some honey-glazed chicken, rice and broccoli.
Go Phillies!

Yes, we need to play consistently better at home, although our road record is outstanding.

You want a new lineup?
Rollins SS, Victorino CF, Utley 2B, Howard 1B, Ibanez LF, Werth RF, Feliz 3B, Ruiz C, Myers P.
Sorry.

Manual obviously sticking with success in using the same lineup tonight.

The current lineup configuration is 1-3 this season. Wouldn’t call that obvious success by “Manual.”

It’s not that I want a specific lineup. But as I wrote yesterday, it’s good to give guys at bats, and shuffling out the same guys out there every day kills that idea.

Oops, a typo.. sorry Charlie..my bad. ;-) Victorino has been moved around in either no.2 or 6 hole considerably. Manuel did the same last season.

I’m anxious for Werth to snap out of his 1 for 18 slump (finally had a hit in last AB last night). It’s for that reason I believe Werth is slotted in the 6th hole instead of Victorino. That and facing a righthander in “Hopper” Badenhop.
Brett Myers’ turn to continue lowering the rotation’s ERA with another quality start.

Tim obviously has a passion..a love for trying various types of beers; local and imports. It shows in his adjectives filled description of a chosen beer. I think he may also have written occasion columns on such beers and pairing with food in a local newpaper?

Did anybody watch Daily News Live tonight? They had the Marlins’ GM on there doing an interview and he said that a good start for Badenhop tonight would be 4 or 5 innings.
That means one of two things will happen tonight: either the Phillies will jump all over this kid, or they’ll pull the “oh, but we’ve never seen him” shit and put up 4 hits for the night. I really hope it’s the former.
The good news is that Myers has been very good lately. Hopefully he can turn his recent success into another good start tonight. We’ll see.

Gotta jump on pitchers in the first inning when they settle in. When Jimmy ran into that out on Wednesday was just terrible. IMO……First inning outs are more precious than 9th inning outs.

Werth was the toast of the town when he stole home and now looks clueless. The truth lays somewhere in between.

Why does Charlie & Co have Mayberry up in the Majors to ride the bench, while Werth looks like he hasn’t played baseball in his lifetime.
I do not understand.

Werth stinks. He is streaky. Ugla is the only one who can beat us and homerun Myers throws him a pitch my granny can hit. Good stuff. This kid should pitch 9 and he will shut us out. THATS FOR SURE.

I would love to get Halladay but I just don’t see it happening. Brad Penny will be a Phillie. Mark my words…or don’t. Been wrong before.

well I read that there’s four teams that are a great fit for Penny: Phillies, Brewers, Twins, and Royals.

Is it just me or have a lot of Myers breakers been left hanging in the zone and a lot of the Marlins players are just taking them?

Told you, you can tell from the start how their playing that its going to be a loss. They’re showing no effort and some no name rookie is dominating them like a 14 year vet.

Good call Ed on the hanging pitches.
Its like Myers lost focus and just f’d up.
Our bats are sooooooooo cold so its uphill from here.

We need to get rid of Myers!!!! Not even through 6 and he already gave up 2 HRs and 5 runs.
This is busch league he is the weakest link in this rotation.

They lost this game in the first inning with bases loaded one out and they didnt score a run.
Maybe they can “win” it later but they yakked early and have struggled since.

Myers is pitching well enough but man those longballs are killing him once again.
Just one of those games that makes you glad baseball works in series and you can’t get hung up on the individual results.
