Gameday 2009, Posts
Washington Nationals (13-33) at Philadelphia Phillies (25-20)
Ross Detwiler (0-0, 2.45 ERA) vs. JA Happ (2-0, 2.60 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia
Weather: Possible thunderstorms, 77
TV: Comcast SportsNet
Twitter: Phillies Nation
So the last one didn’t end well, did it?
Brett Myers might be lost for the season after a bad start against the Marlins and another series loss at home for the Phillies. Now good friends the Nationals come in for a weekend set. JA Happ will try and continue his strong pitching tonight against fellow youngster Ross Detwiler.

Go Phillies!

It’s “gut check time” Phillies. Let’s see that WFC grit and sweep these bottom dwellers from DC!

According to Andy Martino via Poppa Myers, Brett is opting for surgery. Lets see what Worley or Bastardo can do!!!

Feel better Tim. I hate being sick but its a fact of life. You do a great job with these postings. I love coming here. Come on Phillies lets get going and put the Muts in the rear window. We still have a great team. The pitching will work it self out. I have faith in Jr.

After feeling great about the team leaving the Bronx, I’m definitely starting to wonder what the next month or so will be like. Raul may be starting to cool down, and that means its time for Jimmy, Chase, Ryan, and maybe even the recently horrific JWerth.
Another huge start for Happ considering the injury to Myers and the series loss to the fish.

Good first inning for J.A…it would be nice to see six out of him again. Hopefully he will be able to throw something along the lines of 90 pitches today.

As Keith notes, he was missing some spots though. Fingers are crossed.

Ah cmon Chase. We cannot get back in this habit of not getting guys home from third. It killed us with Raul’s double play yesterday and it would be great to have this run. DAMN.

Ehh Detwiler is a pretty good pitcher, you should not expect the world’s most potent offense to get a cheap run off of him. Good thing Vic, Utley and Howard all went after the 2-run homer.

Morris you may be forgetting that Shane lined one the other way, exactly what he was supposed to do.

Just like that a 1-0 lead that we should have had turns into a lead for them. We just don’t look comfortable at the plate at home…I really wish I could figure it out.

Why did Charlie put the 3 lefties in a row against a LHP???

Why does Werth take so many fastballs? He always takes two fastballs before he decides to start swinging.

Because he has no choice Manny. Generally you would stick Werth in there but he has been so so bad that I don’t think he had the confidence in him to hit 3rd or 5th right now.

YES! Dunn is so bad at playing the outfield! I love it!

I’d still rather see Werth in the 5th spot today, though… it’s not like Howard, Utley, and Ibañez are KILLING the ball right now!
Man, Dunn is pathetic on the field! That’s the only reason I’m not voting for him for the All-Star game… he could lose the game with one of those bonehead plays… he still is pretty much Awesome offensively.

idk, losing home field for the all-star game wasn’t bad at all last year.

Besides, Dunn is competing with Rauuul for one of the OF spots.. so no way I’d vote for him!

Steve Carlton had a theory about hothead young hitters. He would let them hit doubles with nobody on base and solo home runs early in the game because he knew the guy would get some full of himself that he would not get another hit the rest of the game. I sometimes see that in the Phillies hitters.

J-Roll needs to start putting the ball on the ground. Ever since his MVP season he has been trying to hit it out every at bat.

Kinda goes along the theme that they give up a ton of runs…terrible defense will do that. Bad pitching doesn’t help. But we wouldn’t know anything about that.

Is it just me, or are the coaches being fairly conservative when it comes to waving runners home?

@Dave: I was thinking the same thing. It’s not a bad thing, though.

Those ball were crushed but is it me or are the Nationals outfielders terrible. Each one took turns making it look bad..
