Gameday 2009, Posts
Philadelphia Phillies (14-10) at New York Mets (12-13)
Chan Ho Park (0-1, 8.57 ERA) vs. Johan Santana (3-1, 1.10 ERA)
Time: 7:10 p.m. at Citi Field, Queens
Weather: Cloudy, 60
TV: Comcast SportsNet, ESPN
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Citi Field welcomes the Phillies.
The spacious, character devoid, stretched-out new home of the Mets has been open for almost a month, and so far it’s chewed up more potential home run balls than the Vault has allowed. That could be trouble for the homer-happy Phillies, but there’s already trouble: The man on the mound tonight.
Johan Santana owns the Phillies (2-0, 2.85 ERA in six starts). He faced them five times last season and gave the Phils fits. Still, a couple hitters can hit him. Ryan Howard is .429 against him with two longballs. Raul Ibanez is .318. Jayson Werth is .313. Still, to beat the Mets at Citi, it’ll mean more small ball than usual.
Chan Ho Park was waxed by the Mets Friday night, and has the opportunity to rebound tonight. He’ll need to – his job might be on the line.
Chase Utley’s status? There are two lineup cards currently out there – one with Utley, one without Utley. We’ll know soon.
Your gamenight beer: I’m thinking we’ll need something strong tonight. So go with Immort Ale from Dogfish Head, our friends from Delaware. Immort Ale is a syrupy-flavored beer that clocks in at 11 pecent alcohol by volume, so drink one at home. Eat something big with this – maybe some steak, rice and bread.
Go Phillies!

Chan Ho-Park vs. Johan Santana really says it all. If we win this game, I’ll be very suprised.

Greg V.,
Given the Mets’ misfortunes (i.e. Murphy and Delgado dropping routine fly balls, the Mets’ lack of scoring when Santana pitches, etc.), anything is possible! If you’ve watched the Mets v. Phillies games since 2007, you’ll notice that if the most fortuitous outcomes tend to happen to the Phillies. Given what I’ve mentioned, I wouldn’t be so cynical if I were you. I’m also aware that it’s easier to be cynical than hopeful; either way, we’re all liable to being let down.
Let’s see what happens tonight!

I wonder if the Mets pitchers will either intentionally throw at his ailing foot or pitch him low in the strike zone.

Why have the Phillies switched from their classic maroon and white uniforms to the flamboyant and glaring red and white?

it might be better to deal with chan ho like that . . . trying to figure out why I am watching rain delay coverage is easier than watching him semi-bow after throwing ducks

Johnny,
I abhor the plethora of advertising! The ads are bigger than the already huge LCD screen behind center field!
Yes, we’re still paying that arrogant, short-tempered hick.

5 strikeouts in the first two innings? Well, at least his pitch count is somewhat high.

Boy the choke artists are lucky they have Santana. There is nobody else on that team that I am afraid of. We have a much better offense and bullpen. They are lucky they had a rain out to move him here tonight. Its ok, like Rollins said it takes more then one Santana to win. They show they cant.

The Mets in fact are still paying for Billy Wagner and I believe he is under contract through this year and maybe even next year.

Come on, guys. Banter is cheap. It’s more intriguing to analyze the game and how it progresses rather than make impetuous remarks that are of no substance.

David, it seems as though you are trying excessively to write eloquently in order to seem intelligent.
Here at a Phillies board we know in fact their is no such thing as an intelligent Met fan, any intelligent New Yorker would be a Yankees fan.

Hey Phuck the Phils – you’re exactly right in using that classic mets fan excuse… our offense is only good because of our hitters’ ballpark. It makes so much since since we were the 3rd best road team in the majors last year and we’re currently 8-2 on the road. Retard

Wow that was a gift for Park, should’ve been a walk right there. He needs to start throwing strikes.

Are you crazy fhuck….Howard over steroid delgado. Utely over your little spanish boy at second. Rollins over Reyes. I give you wright over Pedro at third. Werth and Ibanez are much better hitters then your idiots in right and left. I would take shane anyday over beltran. He hustles, hits, runs, and is a winner. Beltran has to learn how to slide.

Earlier in the post someone asked what the patch on the Mets sleeve says and while it may look like they have added some advertising to their jerseys with the Domino’s logo it in fact reads Inaugural Season 2009
