The real reason I’m here is because I have no friends. The other Mets fans don’t like me because I smell bad and light things on fire. I try to tell them that they’re Mets fans, they also smell bad, but they won’t listen to me.
I also hang around playgrounds a lot. For some reason the teachers always give me dirty looks and take the children inside. I just want to be their friend…

If you have ESPN Classic, turn it on now. 1983 Phillies game against Cardinals with Carlton on the hill. Harry and Whitey calling the game.

    Here ya go, Terry:

    Lucky Starting Pitching:
There is no way the Mets end the year with the NL’s second-lowest ERA. Mike Pelfrey and Livan Hernandez are pitching over their heads and are still below-average. Your second-best pitcher, John Maine, is mediocre and injury-prone. And even Johan won’t be able to perform like this all year. Watch out for the pitcher that gives you his best performance in the first two months of the season.

I didn’t even mention your fifth-starter situation, which is even uglier than the Phils’. At least we have a respectable core of MLB-level talent moving through the minors that can pitch by the end of this year or next. I don’t see too many more rotation options in your system.

    People playing over their head:
Alex Cora, Luis Castillo, and Carlos Beltran are not as good as they look right now. Carlos Delgado is prone to severe cold-streaks and he may never return from his next one at his age.

    Defense:
You’re going to have to step up your defense if you want to survive in Citi Bank Park long-term. While your cavernous park can cover mistakes for your starting pitching, it also puts a lot of pressure on the defense. As we know, the Mets don’t always respond so well to pressure (had to throw that in there).

    Bullpen:
While you’ve added two solid pieces to your back end, they only account for the 8th and 9th innings. What are you going to do when Pelfrey, Livan, and X expose you in the 6th and 7th?

And while K-Rod is nice to have, he is still in line to blow 4-7 more saves this season looking at his career numbers.

    Character:
The Mets have never handled publicity/controversy well, and are in an even worse position to do so this year with Gary Sheffield, an all-time A-hole, on their team.

    The Phillies:
The Phils are going to upgrade a number of positions over the course of the season with callups and the return of JC. Their rotation has been awful so far but should improve as Hamels, Myers, and Blanton have all been pitching well BELOW where they should expect to by the end of the year. We also have a number of possible replacements for Moyer and Park (in Happ, Kendrick, Worley, Carrasco). The teams are neck and neck at this point, so you’ve got to wonder how the Mets are really going to improve upon what they are doing right now to keep up.

finally an answer thank you. I never thought Phillies fans were intelligent you are one of a kind. It had some thruth and some things that wern’t right. Mike Pelfery had a 3.72 ERA last year and that is counting his horrible april. he has much inproved since. this year his ERA is 4.89. Livan hernandez isn’t great but gives you a chance to win. As for defense well I’d say carlos Beltran is pretty good to say the least. Chruch is an outstanding fielder. jermey reed is a good feilder that can be put late in the game. for the bullpen Bobby Parnell has looked great all year. he have up two last night but there was only one good hit off of him. his Era is 2.20 pretty good for the 7 inning also I won’t be surpirsed to see Billy wagner back in september. character when have the mets ever handeld contorversy poorly?? I think you are wrong with that. If Gary Sheffield starts controversy the mets will just cut him. by the way thank you for answering some of the things you said were true.

WORRY and WORRY some more about the Phillies and stop trying to get under someone skin by putting on the page
“And while K-Rod is nice to have, he is still in line to blow 4-7 more saves this season looking at his career numbers.”
Like I said yesterday there are alot of stupid people on here who are not baseball fans let alone Philly fans……….

I think the mets are going to step it up I actaully think they have . Wright and Reyes are just heating up. I agree that Santana can’t keep pitching like this. He will still be a great pitcher. it won’t affect them that much anyway because they lost two games when he has pitched. In my response to you I aslo forgot to say that wright has a couple of gold gloves. so does castillo. I know he is not the same as he used to be but he is still good. Reyes can defently win a gold glove. luis castillo is having a good year but if you look at his career he had better years. I know the mets don’t have a good 5 starter but you really don;t have to have a great 5 stater Tim redding I think is a good enough for a 5 starter.

the real terry, asking a single question after abour 15 posts of nothing but bashing Phillies Phans only gets people to ignore you. Nice try though. As for Church being an outstanding fielder. LOL. Very funny. and “If Gary Sheffield starts controversy the mets will just cut him.” Has he been cut yet? Going on ESPN and calling out every team he has ever played with saying he has been the “best player on every team” he has ever played on. LOL. Thats the beginning of a controversy.

fine i will talk about the Phillies. their starting pitching is horrible their bullpen is average. Lidge just had a career year. madsen is nothing special. their hitting is overrated. thier stats are inflated because of the ball park they play in. opposing pithers are afraid to throw strikes in that stadium thats why they score alot. Jason werth is a journey man outfeilder who is taking advantge of that stadium.what’s so good about victorino he is batting 2.52. Rollins is a career 2.70 hitter. Utley isn’t a young player he is 30 years old the same age as Johan santana.

Totally off topic of the game tonight but, the other night at the ball park(9-2 loss yeesh) I saw a hilarious shirt. It was red, and it said use STAIRS in case of emergency, and it had a picture of Matt Stairs on it. I just thought it was clever haha, anyone seen it?

Boy this team sucks this year. Blanton blows, there d is aweful and they cant hit. We are just like the Mets. Hey Terry tell me where you hang out. I would love to have a few of my friends visit you….Dont mess man

I am so sick of this team. They look lost. The pitchers are absolutely horrible. This is 1993-1994 all over again. Just like 1993, 2008 was a flash in the pan. The reality is that this starting pitching stinks. Blanton and Moyer should not be starting….period. Howard is going to go the way of Big Papi. Adam Dunn has better numbers than him for god’s sake. The only decent move amaro made (ibanez), wasn’t even really his.

  • hey gang … just got done work … has blanton been pitching this bad all game?

I am not sure I am going to be able to leave my house if the Phillies lose this game pathetically again.

Living in DC and losing to arguably the worst team in baseball would be sorry.

I think it is time for Charlie to start throwing things in the clubhouse!!

The Phillies are horrible this year. Things all broke right for them last year. You are not going to win with Blanton and Moyer. There offense is horrible right now.

first, mikemike, colorado is very good for outdoors, and activities and stuff, but I just dont like it, I would rather be back home in the Philly Area. real Terry, Just because Sheffield hit 501 HRs in his career doesnt make him the best player on every team he ever played with. I dont think he was. Was he a good player on those teams, yes, but was he “the best” that he has convinced himself he is? I dojnt think so. As for the “the throw” that church made. Everyone makes good throws every once and a while, but everytime I turn on the TV its another error by murphy and Church. But considering I cant stand the mets, I try not to watch them. As for this year and this game? I wont go as far as this team “sucks” but they do look lost right now. They have beaten some awesome teams, and they have lost to some not so good teams. Beaten the Cards pretty good, and they are a really good team. Lost to the Nats before, and looks like they will again. Hopefully we will get out of this slump. The alarming this, besides losing AGAIN to one of the 2 worst teams in baseball, is that fact that Charlie Manuel keep saying he doesnt find the need to address the team. Uh, ok I know its early, and there is still plenty of time to turn it around, but get with it manuel. The pitching has been anywhere from horrible to Mediocre, and the offense has been very hot and cold, mostly cold lately. Address the team. Tell them to get their heads out of their butts. We CAN AND HAVE won with this team. Ibanez has been playing better than Burrel had, so if anything we SHOULD be better. Its about time to do some soul searching!

I hated that they gave Ryan that money. I liked year to year with him. He strikes out to many times. His at bats are horrible. Whats he have 5 home runs. Thats pathetic.

  • Posts: 0 Jeff of NoVa.

I mean the Nats have better hitting this year but their pitching still sucks, maybe not as bad as ours right now but sucks none the less.

They need to make a statement this weekend and get their bats and ptiching on track!

Feliz singles in a run and reduces the deficit from 3 runs to 2 runs.

TMac says “the Phils have cut this lead in half its now 4-2 Washington”

    LOL…cmon TMac….
