Philadelphia Phillies (22-17) at New York Yankees (24-17)
Brett Myers (3-2, 4.50 ERA) vs. AJ Burnett (2-1, 5.02 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m. at Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
Weather: Isolated storms, 77
TV: MyPhl 17

Interleague play opens with a bang — the Phillies will be the first National League franchise to play at Yankee Stadium, V2.
It’s a highly anticipated series, for sure, with both the Phils and Yanks playing big baseball as of late (while the opposite series, Mets vs. Red Sox, occurs at Fenway). Both teams feature high-octane offenses (The Yankees are first in baseball in runs per game. The Phillies are second.) with a slew of lefty/switch bashers (Mark Teixiera, Johnny Damon, Robinson Cano, Hideki Matsui in New York; Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Raul Ibanez, Jimmy Rollins in Philly). And both teams have had pitching troubles, but the matchups are intriguing and very paralleled. Factor in the short porch in right field and the propensity for Yankee Stadium to give up plenty of runs, and we might have a heck of a weekend here.
In 16 career appearances, AJ Burnett has a 4.57 ERA against the Phils, but that’s against a lot of different teams. Chase Utley has nice numbers (.319 AVG, HR) against Burnett, as does Greg Dobbs (.667 AVG). That doesn’t mean Burnett can’t beat lefties — in fact, they’re hitting just .245 against him this season. Burnett seems to work the zone more against them, walking 17 while striking out 27, much greater than his splits against righties.
This will be Myers’ first appearance in any Yankee Stadium. He has barely faced these Yankees, but his home run totals (an NL-leading 12) might make for a very long night. Hopefully not.
Your gamenight beer: If you can find D. Carnegie & Co. Stark-porter, this beer from the Swedish brewery Carlsberg, you’re in for a treat. This dark velvet beer has a rich licorice taste and warming sensation. It’s truly a first-class brew. Now, it will be hot tonight, but I’m thinking you grab one of these at some dank Brooklyn bar. Have one and let the night take you away. This one’s for those New York nights.
Go Phillies!

I don’t know why, but I am freaking excited about this series!
Maybe it is just because it’s the two hottest teams in baseball right now.
I was even excited enough to put on 610 to hopefully get some pre-game. I forgot that Eskin literally knows nothing about baseball! He was talking about the RH bench hitter like it was a do or die for the phillies, and then he had no ideas what internal options they had for that bench spot. C’mon 610, everyone else on your station is awesome, why the hell do they put up with that idiot.
I love that the Yankees catcher is hitting .077, it’s like it’s still an NL lineup! Myers is going to need that break.
I am thinking 6IP and 3ER with 6 Strikeouts.
Go PHILLIES!

Don’t you just want to send a barbershop quartet into the Orioles offices with a big I told you so. He may have pilfered $8m+ from us but we well and truely thieved the veteran minimum back citigroup style.

BTW, the Orioles helped us out last night when they knocked Chamberlain out early last night. The Yankees BP is worn out and tired. I think the Phils might have a good chance for some comeback wins if they need it.
rivera might not even be able to pitch, I heard that he could be hurt.

Phillies bats should be able to take advantage of the Rigthie lineup of the Bronx staff…
Happ is going to be the key to his series…will he have the op to get the Hump win or will have to be the stopper in this series…
He should do well…fly balls either way

…Fly balls eitehr way, you would rather have them flying into left than right…favors the phils Lefty strong lineup

Aceves is unavailable and Bruney is hurt. Expect Tomko and Phil Coke tonight with Wang as the longman. Let’s go Phils!

I’m looking forward to this series! It’ll look good if the Phils can take down the Yankees while they’re hot. Last year’s interleague record made me sad :(
Wang might be a bullpen option if the Phils take out Burnett early. He skipped a rehab start tomorrow to rejoin the major league team today.

Nice job Jimmy.
What’s Burnett’s beef? He looked at Rollins like “How dare you swing at my first pitch?” Jackhole.

No hot doggings, I also see warnings coming now that Chase got it on the first pich. I say Bret puts one on A-Rod

Nah, Jimmy didn’t hot dog. He actually got around the bases pretty damn quick. I think Burnett was just being hot headed. Like I said before, he looked at Rollins like “How dare you swing at my first pitch?”

I’m surprised the Yankees haven’t given Burnett a hard time about his arm tattoos. I thought the Yankees had a strict no facial hair or tattoos policy.

We couldn’t score another run with a guy on 3rd, 0 outs! Cmon! Werth looked horrible in that at bat… but credit to Texeira with that catch. Ugh..

with runners on first and third, nobody out. YOU have to get him home. Howard typical, Werthless Werth keeps striking out

It’s good that we’ve seen Texiera for that bit time in Atlanta. Our pitchers should know how to pitch to him.
