Philadelphia Phillies (22-17) at New York Yankees (24-17)
Brett Myers (3-2, 4.50 ERA) vs. AJ Burnett (2-1, 5.02 ERA)
Time: 7:05 p.m. at Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
Weather: Isolated storms, 77
TV: MyPhl 17

Interleague play opens with a bang — the Phillies will be the first National League franchise to play at Yankee Stadium, V2.
It’s a highly anticipated series, for sure, with both the Phils and Yanks playing big baseball as of late (while the opposite series, Mets vs. Red Sox, occurs at Fenway). Both teams feature high-octane offenses (The Yankees are first in baseball in runs per game. The Phillies are second.) with a slew of lefty/switch bashers (Mark Teixiera, Johnny Damon, Robinson Cano, Hideki Matsui in New York; Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Raul Ibanez, Jimmy Rollins in Philly). And both teams have had pitching troubles, but the matchups are intriguing and very paralleled. Factor in the short porch in right field and the propensity for Yankee Stadium to give up plenty of runs, and we might have a heck of a weekend here.
In 16 career appearances, AJ Burnett has a 4.57 ERA against the Phils, but that’s against a lot of different teams. Chase Utley has nice numbers (.319 AVG, HR) against Burnett, as does Greg Dobbs (.667 AVG). That doesn’t mean Burnett can’t beat lefties — in fact, they’re hitting just .245 against him this season. Burnett seems to work the zone more against them, walking 17 while striking out 27, much greater than his splits against righties.
This will be Myers’ first appearance in any Yankee Stadium. He has barely faced these Yankees, but his home run totals (an NL-leading 12) might make for a very long night. Hopefully not.
Your gamenight beer: If you can find D. Carnegie & Co. Stark-porter, this beer from the Swedish brewery Carlsberg, you’re in for a treat. This dark velvet beer has a rich licorice taste and warming sensation. It’s truly a first-class brew. Now, it will be hot tonight, but I’m thinking you grab one of these at some dank Brooklyn bar. Have one and let the night take you away. This one’s for those New York nights.
Go Phillies!

I can’t recall another game this season when a Phillies SP had thrown only 81 pitches through 6.

Wow. That pitch before the home run was clearly strike three. That just sat right there, middle in. Unbelievable.

Myers was upset about that pitch. Even Aroid knew it was strike 3. That was a great pitch. Damn ump.

If Wang gets out of this inning with less than 4 runs, I think that his ERA actually goes down.

Bad at bat by Howard after up 3-0 strikes out looking. Single by Werth. Howard and Utley are the 2 phils players who haven’t looked good tonight. A combined 0 for 7 with 4 strikeouts, 4 men LOB, 1 run scored and 1 error commited. Surprised to see Utley has 5 errors already. Haven’t done research but that aint so good right? Maybe wrong. Vic with his 2nd hit tonight. He’s heating up. single by vic. 1st and 3rd two outs Stairs up. vic steals 2nd his 5th of the year. Stairs can’t deliver as he grounds out to first. 6-1 Phillies going to bottom of 7th.

Actually, it looked like it was Phillies fans doing the A-Hole chant, but I couldn’t figure out what was going on there. Did anybody catch it?

Is this officially the best start so far this season for a Phils’ starter?

Bottom 7th: Nick Swisher pops out. Robinson Cano pops out. Melky Cabrera singles. Kevin Cash lines out right.
After 7 innings, Phillies lead 6-1 at Yankees. And yes Phillies are 0for7 with RISP.
Myers so far: 7IP, 6H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 5K, 1HR, 93 pitches(67 strikes, 26 balls). Started the night with an era of 4.50. Currently that is 4.11 and Myers still hasn’t reached 100 pitches yet and he’s not in the batting order so he’ll start the 8th for the phils.

@Georgie: I think it may be the longest start this season for a Phils pitcher.

I’d love for another Myers inning and then Taschner in the 9th. Rest the bullpen.

Wang starts the 8th for the Yankees. Pedro Feliz leads off with a single. Ruiz up next. Ruiz 3for3 with a homer, 2 singles and two rbis. Just of note as of right now, Wang 0-3 with a 30.86era. I remember it wasn’t too long ago when Wang won 19 games. Since he injured himself running around the basepaths at Houston last he hasn’t been the same. Ruiz won’t go perfect tonight as he strikes out swinging. Still a really good job by Ruiz at the plate and being the backstop leading Myers into a great start. Jimmy Rollins is up next. He singles. Now comes Utley who has struggled tonight after a great performance yesterday. 1st and 2nd, 1out. Utley delivers!!! A single scores Feliz. Now 1st and 2nd 1out for RAAAAAUUUUULLLL Ibanez. 7-1 Phillies. Ibanez doesn’t deliver this time however. He grounds into a double play which I think his is first of the year. Anyways, Phils now 1for9 with RISP. Going to bottom 8th Phils lead 7-1

joedad- Maybe thats Wang’s problem, a guy who isn’t hanging to one side or the other is just bound to have problems… Maybe a looser pair of pants might help.
