Odds And Ends, Posts

A few notes on this off day:

  • Triple Crown update: Raul Ibanez is hitting .357 (5th, NL) with 13 HR (2nd, NL) and 35 RBI (2nd, NL). His 1.139 OPS leads the National League.

“Unbelievable, really,” he said, grabbing a phone from the locker and pointing to the screen. “14 texts!”

Yeah, I don’t even get 14 texts for my birthday. Good job, Sergio.

How big is this? He’ll instantly change the pitching staff, allowing Scott Eyre to move back to middle relief and taking the load off Chad Durbin and Clay Condrey, middle relievers uncomfortable with multiple late-inning appearances.

Wow, only 16 games until J.C. comes back? Man, the season flies by.

Ibanez is putting up career numbers despite a career low Contact rate and line drive %. Baseball is a crazy game.

Getting romero back and a few other changes to the staff/bench will make the difference for this team. How we are only a half game back, I do not know. I think the Muts might start to slip soon…

How long is Sergio going to stay up? just until JC gets back? eventually they are going to need another right handed bat off the bench right? Even though it will be nice to have an extra arm in the Bull Pen, they can not carry all these pitchers through July, can they. I am a big Werth fan, sometimes he loses focus in the field and at the plate, but I think he will be clutch. One more thing, what is up with Pete Happy, the man is on fire, walking hitting, should he moved up in the line up for a week or two.

I totally agree that Werth is underrated. Yeah he hasn’t really put up big numbers in his early career because of injuries, but he’s absolutely becoming a 5 tool player. If he hit right handers consistantly (I don’t know what his splits are so far in 09) he would be a top tier outfielder IMO.

Might as well keep that extra arm for a while. The way the bench has been hitting this season they can let the pitcher hit for himself and will probably have the same chance of getting a hit as Dobbs/Bruntlett/formerly Cairo.

Yeah he will hit more home runs than Pujols LOL

Here are Raul Ibanez numbers from last year 2.93 average 23 home runs 110 RBI now here is Pujols 3.57 average 37 home runs 116 RBI. He does not stand a chance of winning the triple crown

I think Jason werth is overrated not underrated.

Albert Pujols would be the perfect ballplayer, if only he would return my phone calls and lift the restraining order.

I am glad Werth is finally getting some love.

Look at the impact Trevor Hoffman had on the Brewers bullpen when he came back. J.C Romero will have a similar impact. No he won’t rack up the saves but he will provide stability to a bullpen in such need of it. Think about how badly they have been over worked and they still are in the top 5 in the NL.

Went to the Iron Pigs game tonight upon hearing Romero was rehabbing (ok, I really wanted the plunger they were giving away). Here’s his line.

    IP/2H/ER/1BB/2K

He also took the loss. He started out bad. He allowed 2 back to back hits, the second which drove in the winning run for the Gwinnett Braves. Then he settled down and recorded 2 strike outs and and a routine groundball out. All and all, not a horrendous first professional appearance of the year.
