John Mayberry Jr. has been promoted to the Phillies, while Sergio Escalona has been demoted to the triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

Mayberry, hitting .277 with 8 HR and 25 RBI for the IronPigs this season, will start tomorrow against the Yankees, according to sources close to Phillies Nation.

Speaking of sources close to Phillies Nation, you said that Kendrick has until June to make it back here or else hell be traded – or something to that effect – any recent updates on that front from those sources? Maybe the Rockies would take him & another decent prospect for Aaron Cook to slide into the 4th rotation spot. Of course, the Phillies would need more of an upgrade down the line, but Id expect them to do something like that first.

Great news, excited to see this kid get some big league action.

Was he really demoted to AAA or just chosen logically LOL. He hadn’t been up long enough to get demoted. I am picking words, I just never liked the word – unless it is like Eaton demoted to AAA

Very good news. I hope he does well.

While I have not checked into Kendrick’s latest progress effort in AAA, It amuses me that there should be a rumor to the effect that an arbitrary “June” deadline exists for Kendrick. Of course, no proper sources are identified to confirm such a mandate. Can one picture the Phillies organization handing a mandate to Kendrick thus laying an albatross around his neck? If the Phillies want to make a trade involving kendrick before the non-waiver trade deadline (July 31st), it will not be because of his record in AAA but rather that the other team wanted him.

Should be interesting to see how they perform. I’m looking forward to Happ getting his shot tomorrow. Would have been funny of Burnett pitched tomorrow. AJ vs. JA.

Interesting fact here, John Mayberry Jr getting his first major acton ( unsure of this, don’t know if he ever made up with the Rangers) but it is against a team his father played for back in the seventies.

Mayberry called up because Vic or Wreth are part of the deal that’ll bring Peavy to the Phillies?

Vic / Werth + Carrasco and a.n. other for Peavy?

escalona pitched really well with phils

Craig….are you serious? Mayberry brought up to be the righty DH in the lineup against Petitte. The he goes right back down. Get a grip. I liked Escalona. Always a spot for lefties relievers.

The Dipsy don’t you when somebody is kidding? Do you think he is serious about VIC OR WERTH. no body would post that who was kidding.

Ok mikemike. I don’t know him, so…… mikemike, can you tell me , if you know, whether Reading is a severe pitchers park? I was looking over the stats and the pitching stats are good but the hitting stats suck.

I’d rather have Escalona than Taschner

makes sense, Escolana got his feet wet in a great way and has delivered confidence for the future. Taschner is a viable veteran at a time in the year your top priority is holidng the bullpen together. Mayberry’s quietly put together the numbers you’d expect from him in AAA so time for him to take a quick taste.

Remember JC is nearing his return so someones days are numbered in the bullpen and it’ll likely be Taschner. Keeping Escolona up serves very little purpose and Taschner was brought here to be all but used and discarded.

John Mayberry Sr. played mostly for the Astros, Royals and Blue Jays, but did play his final season for the Yankees.

John Mayberry Jr. doesn’t appear to have any major league at bats.

At the very least, Mayberry Jr. is a better RH pinch-hitter than Bruntlett.

thats premature to say, he’ll be aggressive or intentionally passive but a good hitter doesn’t necassarily make good pinch-hitter as we’ve learnt.

Lets keep our expectations grounded. Goose eggs or home runs I expect this kid to be in Philly pinstripes for years to come.

Just went to see, Can’t find anything on the park. but a couple of guys who do a weekly report on reading, for phuture phillies. Talk about how bad the hitting is in the el league, they said in Savery last start only two guys where over 280 batting average. And I believe the only worst hitting team than reading is altoona, who reading has trouble beating, So it league wide with the hitting according to these guys.

I think that Mayberry will be the DH with a Lefty on the mound. I don’t think we are going to make a trade anytime soon, unless it is an off the charts deal for Peavy or something like that. as Dipsy would put it odds of that 1000 to 1 :)

Mayberry should start in LF for at least one of these games and DH Ibanez. I’m excited to see Mayberry as much as anyone but don’t forget he’s got more K’s than hits this season at AAA.

With the state of most teams bullpens is it possible to trade Tascher for someone’s RH 5th outfielder? (got any names?) JC will be returning shortly and I think they’ll send Mayberry back down.

pb, there is no way in hell they are going to do that. I would be so pissed if they did anything to get Raul out of his rhythm right now. Plus, Mayberry is a big slugger that plays the outfield, a.k.a. Pat Burrell Jr. out there. Other then just sending him out there for s**ts and giggles why would they do it?

I agree with whoever was advising caution with Mayberry. He strikes out a ton and has not proven too consistent yet so don’t be too surprised to see him struggle a little bit, especially against two of the smartest and respected lefties in the game. It’s not like going out there against Jo-Jo Reyes or Scott Olsen.

btw I’m sorry mikemike but I don’t think Craig was kidding about the whole Vic/Werth + carrasco for Peavy thing. He made no mention that he was kidding. I seriously, for his sake, hope he was though.

Miles– “Mayberry is a big slugger that plays the outfield, a.k.a. Pat Burrell Jr. out there.” Are you kidding!!! Mayberry has more range than both Pat and Raul.. oh and he can throw also. Not that he is one but Charlie played him some in CF during the spring… something you would never even consider doing with Pat or Raul. Raul DH alot last season so I think he’ll be fine…rest him abit with still having this bat in the lineup.

Vic+Werth & Carrasco isn’t going to get a deal done for Peavy. a) He’ll veto b) San Diego aren’t Colorado and don’t want players with service time which is why every deal proposed has been for players with none or negligable service time c) San Diego want pitching, Gordon Beckham would have been in the White Sox deal if that wasn’t the case. And d) he’ll veto a second time because he has made it clear Wrigley is the only pitchers park he’ll accept a trade to because he’s a wimp who hasn’t got the intagables of a real franchise pitcher like Halladay or Webb.

Peavy vetoed the deal for the White Sox because it was a hitter’s park. If he vetoed that he is sure to veto CPB, as it was not on his list of places he’d go. I am even surprised he would not veto Wrigley, but he didn’t. All of the places he chose (minus Wrigley) were pitcher’s parks. I don’t see the deal happening, as the Padres want pitching. Who can we offer?

The Phils can probably put together a package of pitchers but it would be steep. Peavy had the Cubs on the list because he knows he’ll get the attention there and lets be real, with him and healthy that would probably be the best team in baseball by a country mile.

Miles– I guess hell has frozen over

    today’s lineup
    SS Rollins
    2B Utley
    LF Werth
    1B Howard
    DH Ibanez
    CF Victorino
    3B Feliz
    RF Mayberry
    C Coste

He even flipped JW over to LF

Victorino and Werth on the trading block? I sure am glad craig isnt making these decisions.

Uh oh, we’re screwed….it’s obvious Miles knows more than Cholly.

Brian of CO, be comforted in the fact San Diego wouldn’t take them even if offered.

  • Posts: 0 Brian of CO

I doubt the Phillies would even offer them.

i agree with Ben. I’d also rather have escalona rather than taschner

Yeah shows what I know pb. I just don’t understand why you would change things up like that. Not only with moving him out of the outfield but also into the 5 hole again after he has produced almost every game at the 3 spot.

I know he has been a DH before so he should be used to it, and knowing Raul he will still go 4-4 for or something but does anyone hear what I’m saying?
