Peavy is going to hold up any east coast trade with crazy demands to waive his only certain team deal. I like him but he will cost a bundle, plus san diego will want so much it might just be better to pass. What I Don’t get is you can go to a winning team why not/

Haren is signed with the Diamondbacks for a while I think..

Harden on the Cubs might not be signed, but he’s an injury risk and the Phillies wouldn’t be interested.. they are in love with “Innings Eaters”

I think they go after Buerhle is the White Sox stay under .500 and look to rebuild..

They have John Danks as an ACE in waiting for them.. they can afford to move Buerhle for prospects..

Peavy is nasty, but I think they’ll ask for a TON in return.. in hopes that the Yankees and Cubs outbid one another

phils have $20+ million coming off the books after 2009 in Myers/Eaton…I think if they can make a deal without killing their minor league system they will come summer….which means anyone in that $5-$14 million range could be in play as long as they’re also signed for 2010..at that price, myers could be resigned for a more reasonable 3 years – $21 deal and they strengthen team for ’09/’10 without adding ’10 salary from ’09 levels. We know there is no way Bretty gets anything on the open market resembling the $12 million phils paying him this year plus he wants to stay in philly so 3 yrs $20-$25 million is about right.

big question is do the phils have enough in their system to go after a Buehrle/Peavy/Haren/Bedard come July? They could easily add a Garland or a Cook but I don’t see that happening unless injuries hit the staff…they’re locked into Moyer this year and he will get 20+ starts at minimum before any hook. you just don’t yank a guy after 7 starts coming off a 16-7 3.71 era season and two year big contract signing…he’ll get 20+ to prove he didn’t age out of the league over the winter. blanton will get 20+ starts as well, he has proven he is a solid(if unspectacular) major league starting pitcher.

boy would be nice to land one of the big arms come July and go to battle with Hamels Myers and ____ _____ come september. I think they’ll do it money wise if they can mak a deal that makes sense.

Myers, Blanton, Moyer … might not be on the roster in 2011… at the same time that Buerhle would leave.. and when Hamels would become a Free Agent for the first time (or is that 2012)..

Whatever the case.. you need FIVE starting pitchers for your team.. and i’d rather have Carrasco as a solid three or four.. then have to keep trading prospects for Lidle, Lohse, and Blantons every year

Carrasco is 23 year old.. he’s got plenty of time to develop.. and from everything I ever read about him he project to be a “Mid to Top of the rotation Starter” … whatever that means Im not sure..

But Hamels, Happ, Carrasco, Drabek, ? .. sounds nice a few years down the line

Carrasco in the right deal will be move. You have to remember he projects as a three or four, according to scouts, law and others who really know prospect, so if you can pay the money to a buerhle and it for more than one season, you make the move buerhle is already a established two or three carrasco might never make it so if you are serious about another pennant and series you do it, and also for the first time in years they have a lot of arms. three more of those arms are in extended spring waiting for willamsport to start. I HIGHLY doubt they would consider moving Carrasco either..

he’s young, with a ton of upside… and once he gets called up, the Phillies have him under their control for a couple of years.. instead of trading him for a veteran that you’ll lose to free agency one year later..

Considering we just won the World Series.. I really doubt we’ll see them move any top-pitching just for a chance to make another post season run.. they earned the right not to mortgage their future to go “all-in” right now..

If you could give up Donald, Savery, and ? for Mark Buerhle.. you would probably pull the trigger

The only untouchables are Drabek, because he projects as a one or two. and the way brown is developing it would be hard to part with him. He is a five tool stud. Yesterday the phillies said he isn’t in reading. because they want to go slow with him. Taylor is really coming on but he had diabetis and sit out games. Maybe they would part with him .

Buerhle is the one to go after. Bedard would cost less, but Buerhle is under contract next year too I beleive. This guy would tear up the National League.

My Guess:

Drabek is off limits, Taylor and Brown are off Limits, and Im not sure about carrasco.

So:

Michael Stutes, John Mayberry, JR, David (name?) Schwimmer, & ONE of Lou Marson/Jason Donald.

Would anyone do that? I mean, this is mark Buerhle were talking about here, I think it might be worth it since hes under contract for a year longer at least. can someone verify the contract?

I was posting yesterday that I think Buerhle is already out there as someone who his team wants to move.. and White Sox are 15-22 right now

He’s having an unreal start to the season.. 45 Innings, 5-1, 3.00 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 30 Ks, 12 Walks

Also,
The Mariners ARE NOT winning.. they started hot (so did the Padres.. so did the Marlins).. The M’s are now 18-21 and 6 games back of Texas in the West, 2 games behind the Angels, who are getting their #1 and #2 pitchers back

The Mariners should, and will be SELLERS at the deadline…

Bedard in 42 innings, 2-1 record, 2.53 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 43 Ks, 11 Walks

My best guess for what either of these guys would cost:
We’d have to give up one of the OF prospects, probably one of the top-pitchers, and then a throw-in prospect as well..

Very few if any comments on the minor league deal for Paul Bako. My sense is the Phillies wanted this 10 year ML veteran as added depth in case something happens to Carlos Ruiz or Chris Coste at some point. Again, it appears the front office philosophy is in going with experience over youth (Marson).

Not sure who we’d get or if the sox’s would want to deal a pitcher, but I know they want a catcher for the future and do have a surplus of major leage ready pitching. Of course seeing as that’s the one glaring weakness on our team it’s unlikely we’ll get anyone decent for even a fair trade, when team’s know you only need one or two pieces they like to over charge you.
