Today’s lineup, courtesy Scott Lauber, is:
Victorino / Utley / Werth / Howard / Rollins / Ibanez / Feliz / Ruiz / Park.
Jimmy Rollins is in the 5-hole, or a prime RBI position. You know, since he really allows opportunities to bring home runners.

Or some of those fly-balls that he’s been hitting might be sac-flys.. something to boost confidence.. you knew they weren’t dropping him below #6.
I like this lineup tonight

Not sure if I like Utley batting 2nd.
The 3 lefties make it hard to switch around the line up too much though.

Utley actually has a higher career batting average hitting #2 (.321) then he does batting #3 (.303)… And still manages to hit .286 overall vs. Lefty’s in his career. Batting 2nd tonight isn’t a big deal, If anything it might get him an extra at-bat in the game?? So it’s not a bad thing..
Werth hits LHP at .293 and his SLUG% and OnBase% are a lot higher.. he doesn’t have the great average hitting 3rd.. but he usually hits 2nd, 5th, or 6th..
I don’t know how much things change, except maybe he presses a little too much to drive the ball in the #3 hole.
whatever the case, I like the Phillies lineup tonight.. a young Dodgers starter coming in to a hitters ballpark

why not put Rollins behind Feliz in the 7th hole? he’s hitting more like Ruiz these days.

I love getting a true righty into the top of the lineup finally….

I like it, but why not Ibanez in the No. 5 spot? It would only be 2 lefties in a row, not 3 (Howard and Ibanez)… with the way Ibanez is hitting the ball, teams won’t pitch around Howard…
Just walk Howard and get the DP when Jimmy bats.

Rollins should be even farther down than he is…hes not a top 6 hitter anymore…at least at this point…

Manny — Does Jimmy hit a lot of ground outs?

Totally unrelated, but I found this little gem on MLB.com and couldn’t resist the temptation to post it on here:
Wright on Santana’s tough luck: “We have a different mind-set when he pitches.”
Wow. Choke artists!!

I think Charlie is being Charlie here. I think he wants J Roll to get a few hits, which he will have plenty of opportunities to do so batting lower in the order. Once Jimmy gets going, which we all know he will, move him back up there and the lineup will be clicking again. Let’s hope that starts tonight against up and down Clay.

Adam C: When he’s slumping, yea, I think so… I don’t know what the stats are but he’s slumping and either hitting the ball weakly (on the ground) or popping up.

It was only a matter of time before Rollins was dropped in the lineup again. Hopefully he can get some mojo going behind the big man. Good luck Rollins!

I don’t mind Utley in the 2 spot and Werth in the 3 hole. As long as you don’t hit 3 lefties in a row (like Manuel did Sunday since Werth was out of the lineup).

Utley, Howard, Werth, Pedro, Rollins have all hit Kershaw in the past… Utley is 2-4 with a HR and 2 BB. So that’s good.
Victorino, however, is 0-5 with 2 Ks

I have Kershaw in my fantasy team but I had to bench him for today’s game… haha

I like that lineup against lefties. I like Ibanez at #2 against righties though, similr to that one night Utley had off:
Victorino / Ibanez / Utley / Howard / Werth / Rollins / Feliz / Ruiz

Manny — I’m not disagreeing with you. I’ve just felt like i’ve seen more flyouts and K’s. Either way, though, you are correct in that teams could possibly do that.
They did that last year, walked utley to get to howard when he was slumping big time.

Yea, Adam.. the other argument is that having Ibanez behind Jimmy will give Jimmy some good pitches to swing at… and that could get him out of the slump.
Jimmy goes 3-4 tonight with a solo shot! (too optimistic? perhaps.. but I’m just happy at the fact that he’s no longer leading off)

If indeed that is the lineup order tonight, I said to myself..there goes Howard’s “protection”. I agreed with Manny That Ibanez would fit better in the the five hole. I suspect Manuel knows that Howard likely would be pitched around and allowing Rollins to “see” the good pitches to hit. Well see if that works in Rollins’ favor.

I suggested Utley number two but everyone yelled at me on Saturday. Utley has to hit 3. I like him two..We need a change. Take pressure of JROLL…

Rollins should be no higher than 7th. Maybe they should use the Dodgers logic as applied to Pierre and bat him 9th. The lefties in a row argument is ridiculous. Who would you rather have hitting against a leftie-Ibanez or Rollins? As bad as Rollins has been hitting leftie, he’s even worse batting righthanded.

You can throw all the stats out there you want, but your best hitter should hit third, and that is utley, I don’t mind him hitting 2 for a night or two, but in the long run, he needs to be third. And why not just put Chase third and Wreth second. Also I like JRoll at 5 to get him some pitches to hit, they pitch around Howard, and they have to JRoll some pitches to hit, with Raul behind him, But I think if your going to drop Jimmy down, you can put Pete Happy at five, he is hitting well right now, and Jimmy 7, Your second lead off spot. that is JMO
