Philadelphia Phillies (32-21) at Los Angeles Dodgers (38-19)
Joe Blanton (4-3, 5.86 ERA) vs. Hiroki Kuroda (1-1, 2.53 ERA)
Time: 4:10 p.m. at Dodger Stadium, Chavez Ravine, Calif.
Weather: Mostly sunny, 64
TV: FOX
Twitter: Phillies Nation
Last night wasn’t a pretty end, but hey, that’s why they play the games. Today the Phillies look to rewrite a new streak against the Dodgers, sending Joe Blanton against the always-tough Hiroki Kuroda.
Kuroda is the epitome of the kind of starter the Phillies can’t beat: A sinker-throwing, low-pounding, slow-moving thrower who baffles batters into 10-12-pitch innings. He faced the Phillies three times in 2008 — two regular-season game where he gave up just four total hits and two total runs, striking out 12 and walking two; then in the postseason, where he stumped the Phillies to two runs in six innings in game three of the NLCS.
Blanton, meanwhile, has been very effective his last few starts, pitching close to a masterpiece at PETCO Park. Dodger hitters haven’t especially struck him well, but James Loney has two RBI against him.
Jimmy Rollins is 0-for-10 so far in the series. He needs to pick it up, especially if Shane Victorino misses today’s game with his bruised hip.
Your gameday beer: Here’s an apt beer: Brooklyn’s Pennant Ale ’55. The beer celebrates the Brooklyn Dodgers 1955 championship with a pale but refreshing taste, perfect for a hot summer day like today (well, hot enough, I suppose). Last night the Dodgers acted as if they won the pennant after coming back to beat the Phils, with all 5,000 rabid, nickel-throwing fans in attendance cheering. So drink up to those … fans … and make yourself a nice Coney Island hot dog. Mmmmm, Jesse.
Go Phillies!

I agree with all those that said Raul can’t run, field or hit lefties… You were all very right…

Bruntlett must be related to Charlie, can understand why he’s on the roster but the amount of playing time he’s getting is a little silly.

No hitter for Kuroda through 4. I have a feeling this game will turn out be like the Dave Bush game in Milwaukee. Bush lost his no-hitter in the 7th I think but Brewers won like 5-1. Matt Stairs hit a late homer. In this game I think Dodgers will have a big inning in which they will score all their runs and then Kuroda loses his no hitter in the 7th or something and then Jimmy Rollins hits a pinch hit homer in the 8th or 9th and the Dodgers win. Hopefully I’m way wrong.

Well, last night’s hero delivers again today. On a 1-2 pitch Andre Either hits his 8th homer of the year to right field and the Dodgers lead 1-0.

Final scores in the Big Leagues today:
KC Royals end their 8 game losing streak and win in Toronto against the Blue Jays 6-2.
Yankees and Rays were tied at 5 going to the ninth, when Mariano Rivera entered for the Yankees. The Rays scored 4 runs to take a 9-5 lead. However the Yankees scored two runs and had a man on second. However the Yankees couldn’t complete the comeback as the Rays win their 4 straight at NY against the Yankees 9-7.

After Russell Martin grounds out for two outs, James loney singles and steals second. Then Matt Kemp called out on strikes. So the Dodgers get two hit and a run on a solo blast from Andre Either and lead 1-0 going to the 5th. Phillies will try to get their first hit with Ibanez, Feliz and Bruntlett batting and Hiroki Kuroda (on my fantasy team) will try to keep the no-no going. I want Phillies to win like 2-1 so my fav team and my fantasy pitcher both do well.

Through 4 innings for both pitchers:
Kuroda: 4IP, 0H, OR, OER, 2BB, 2K, 48 pitches
Blanton: 4IP, 3H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 4K, 1HR, 64 pitches
Lots of pitches for Blanton so far but still solid. This is what I hate. When offense is rolling, pitchers aren’t. When pitching is rolling, offense is down and leaving men on base. Only a few times both are rolling at same time this year.

Top 5th: Ibanez has turned down back to earth the past few days. He strikes out swinging. One of last night’s goats Pedro feliz whose error cost the Phillies the game finally breaks the no hitter with a single to center. Hopefully this gives the Phillies a much needed confidence boost. The Beard man is up. 2-2 on Beard Bruntlett. The Beard can’t deliver as he strikes out swinging. Chooch is up. While Beard is good at D, he stinks at O. Dobbs played well in outfield during last game in SD including a great catch off Chris Young. And he’s getting his offense going. Start him tomorrow please.

Apparently Manual is arguing the call at 1st, but Fox is not doing much of a replay. They had kyron over the base when they replayed it!

3-0 on Chooch and they probably will walk him cause blanton is up next. Full count now. This is what you gotta like about Kuroda. He doesn’t care if pitcher is next. He gonna go after the 8th guy. Cmon chooch deliver. Ruiz can’t deliver as he grounds out. 1-0 LA Dodgers going to bottom of 5th. Ruiz was ahead 3-0 but he grounds out.
Kuroda: 5IP, 1H, 0R, 0ER, 2BB, 4K, 68 pitches (39 strikes, 29 balls)
Bottom of 5th: 7,8,9 hitters up – Lorretta, Castro, Kuroda (need a 1-2-3).

Lorretta grounds out. Juan Castro singles. Kuroda bunts castro over to second. Juan Pierre flies out to deep center.
Blanton: 5IP, 4H, 1R, 1ER, 0BB, 4K, 1HR, 82 pitches – 56 strikes, 26 balls
Top 6th: Blanton, Victorino, Werth
Lets get some runs Phillies!!!

Who woulda thought Mary Hart was such a big baseball fan???? I remember seeing her in the same spot (1st row right to the right of RH batter’s box) during the NLCS but I just figured she was bandwagon jumping on a playoff team. Good for you Mary and how’d you break you arm????
