Last night wasn’t a pretty end, but hey, that’s why they play the games. Today the Phillies look to rewrite a new streak against the Dodgers, sending Joe Blanton against the always-tough Hiroki Kuroda.
Kuroda is the epitome of the kind of starter the Phillies can’t beat: A sinker-throwing, low-pounding, slow-moving thrower who baffles batters into 10-12-pitch innings. He faced the Phillies three times in 2008 — two regular-season game where he gave up just four total hits and two total runs, striking out 12 and walking two; then in the postseason, where he stumped the Phillies to two runs in six innings in game three of the NLCS.
Blanton, meanwhile, has been very effective his last few starts, pitching close to a masterpiece at PETCO Park. Dodger hitters haven’t especially struck him well, but James Loney has two RBI against him.
Jimmy Rollins is 0-for-10 so far in the series. He needs to pick it up, especially if Shane Victorino misses today’s game with his bruised hip.
Your gameday beer: Here’s an apt beer: Brooklyn’s Pennant Ale ’55. The beer celebrates the Brooklyn Dodgers 1955 championship with a pale but refreshing taste, perfect for a hot summer day like today (well, hot enough, I suppose). Last night the Dodgers acted as if they won the pennant after coming back to beat the Phils, with all 5,000 rabid, nickel-throwing fans in attendance cheering. So drink up to those … fans … and make yourself a nice Coney Island hot dog. Mmmmm, Jesse.
Go Phillies!

do you think he might be tipping his pitches? I heard that when Kyle Losche went to the Cards, Duncan picked up on it and the rest is history
i’m gonna get sick….they better pound them into the ground tommorrow after this celebration at home plate

I still have faith, and we just gotta believe. We are WFCs and we’ll be OK. Good night all, I am numb from this all and looking forward to coming home to CPB

Bastardo will have to eat some innings tomorrow because bullpen used alot today. Scary part is alot of times young pitchers will get torched in a stadium and crowd like LA. Great job by Durbin even though he allows winning HR to Either. Either won it yesterday with a walk off 2 run double and wins it today with a walk off homer. Two homers for Either. Offense not good at all today. 8 runs in 30 innings not good. Blanton pitched. Starting pitching looking really good. Remember its baseball. You go hot you’re gonna go cold. You go cold you’re gonna go hot. Phillies now 32-22 with a 20-8 record on road. They have lost the first 2 of 3 here in LA even though we should have won all three. Great starting pitching by Phillies so far. Nats will probably win today so Phillies should hold a 3 game lead over the Mets entering Tomorrow. Lakers game friday phillies win. No lakers game yesterday and today dodgers win. Lakers game tomorrow I predict Phillies win. Bastardo vs former Phillie Randy Wolf. Offense and Rollins due for some damage folks. 8:05pm ET tomorrow on Espn Sunday Night Baseball. Tough loss. Should’ve won but Lidge blows it. Dodgers get all three runs via 3 solo homers. Lidge needs fixing. To be honest I think his knee hurts so they should put him on the 15 day DL, call up Sergio Escalona and make Ryan Madson closer for a while. Go Phillies tough loss wished game in afternoon tom just want to get back at it. Phillies going for split tomorrow night. Go Phillies!
